NOTES: In the walkthrough for the first level I attempted to note the location of every gem, breakable urn, etc. In later levels, I don't bother to mention them all. So unless you're attempting a time challenge, stay alert. Try to kill every enemy, light every brazier, and break or blow up every destructible object, including vases, cracked floor tiles, etc., for maximum points. In order to beat the Gold score challenge for this level, it also helps to maintain the 4x score multiplier as much as possible. Take your time and try not to take damage or die. Without multipliers it's basically impossible to get the 95,000 points.

BONUS TOMBS: This tomb is not included in the main game but can be purchased as part of the Icy Death pack. See the DLC page for details.

TOMB ENTRANCE: The entrance to this tomb is located on the north side of the Sunken Chapel of Sobek area of the Overworld. (screenshot) It's also marked on the in-game map. (screenshot) Activate the carved obelisk to open the door and enter the tomb.

As you have no doubt surmised, this is another ice-themed level. So equip at least one item that confers cold resistance if you haven't done so already. Note that to equip the Ice Climber Lara outfit that comes with this DLC, you'll first need to unlock it by opening the Community Chest in the Shrine of Osiris area of the Overworld. (screenshot) You'll then find the outfit in your inventory.

STAIRCASE AND CHASM WITH SMALL PLATFORMS: Smash various urns and use your torch or incendiary weapons to light the braziers for the Challenge: Light All the Braziers in the Tomb of Hoarfrost. There are 6 braziers (6/51) here: two on the upper level, two halfway down the wide staircase, and two more at the bottom. The Challenges screen counts how many braziers you've lit as you progress. (Here is a series of screenshots showing all 51 brazier locations.)

The exit from this room is off to the upper right. You'll need to open two gates in order to leave. Start by jumping from the ledge at the bottom of the stairs to the nearest square platform. Two archers appear on the columns ahead. Shoot them before they can shoot you. Jump over to the larger platform with the snowmaking machine. Move around the upper left side to avoid being hit by the icy blast. Kill another archer who materializes on the column ahead. Then retrieve the red skull (1/5) sitting on the column to the right. (screenshots)

Jump back onto the large, square platform, then the next platform to the upper right, taking care to avoid the snow jets if possible. Then jump onto the pedestal with the square pressure pad in order to open the gate just to the left. Jump across the gap and return to the top of the stairs. Pull the golden handle to open the gate on the upper right side of the room. (screenshots)

The gate you opened with the pressure pad stays open permanently, but the other closes once the handle retracts. So run/roll down the stairs, jump over to the pedestal with the pressure pad, then to the platform on the left with the snowmaking machine. Move counterclockwise around the platform to avoid the snow jets and then jump onto the ledge below the gate. In the single-player game, grapple the golden ring above and climb onto the ledge. In co-op, there is no ring, so use the bubble shield and grapple to get everyone up onto the ledge. Once one character steps on the pressure pad there, the gate stays open. (screenshots)

HALLWAY WITH ICE VENTS: There are 2 more braziers (7-8/51) before the first set of ice vents. Be sure to light them for the challenge. To get past the first row of ice vents, wait for the blue light to move off to the right and quickly run/roll over the darkened vents. The next brazier (9/51) for the challenge is on the landing between the 2 sets of ice vents. Light it. Then approach the long row of ice vents. Wait for the blue light to move away from the starting point and then carefully follow it, standing only on the dark vents, and picking up gems as you go. (screenshots)

Jump across the gap in the walkway. Ahead on the left, is a wider gap with a golden ring mounted on the wall above a row of vertical ice vents. To cross safely, grapple the ring and then wait for the active vents to move away from you before stepping off the ledge into the gap. Hang from the cable below the vents and wait for the blue lights to move all the way to the left, then shift back to the right before attempting to jump over to the ledge on the left. (screenshots)

In co-op, have one of the archaeologists cross the gap as in the single-player version, above. She can then stand on the pressure pad to raise a wooden ledge below the vertical ice vents. The other player(s) should then wait for the blue lights to move to the left end of the wall before jumping onto the wooden ledge. Then as soon as the lights cycle back to the right side, quickly jump down onto the solid floor. Or, alternatively, have an archaeologist grapple the ring so the other(s) can tightrope walk up the cable and then jump down on the other side. The archaeologist can then swing across as in the single-player game or use the wooden ledge to jump across. (screenshots)

At the bottom of the steps are 2 rows of ice vents cycling in opposite directions. Stand facing the middle of the vents and watch the pattern. Just after the blue lights pass each other moving outward in opposite directions, run/jump over them. (screenshots)

Directly ahead, beneath a large statue of a ram-headed sphinx, is another brazier (10/51) to light for the challenge. Continue up the stairs to the right to find the next 4 braziers (11-14/51), one of which is hidden behind the first column on the right. At the bottom of the next flight of stairs are 2 more braziers (15-16/51), and there's another brazier (17/51) just around the corner to the left, as you approach the gap with the MAX HEALTH UPGRADE on the other side. (screenshots)

CHASM WITH DRAWBRIDGE: That upgrade looks tempting, but naturally things are more complicated than they seem. As you jump across the gap the bars close, and you're left holding onto the ledge. Very carefully traverse to the right, following the active ice vents as they move along ahead of you. Pull up and step on the pressure pad to extend a drawbridge to your right. (screenshots)

In the co-op game there are 2 pressure pads (plus a third pad near the health upgrade). The one on the right extends the drawbridge. The middle one lowers the bars so you can reach the upgrade, but don't worry about that just yet. Only one player needs to traverse past the vents and extend the bridge. (screenshot)

When you jump onto the drawbridge, 2 Marks of Set appear and enemies begin to emerge. This is a good spot to attempt the Challenge: Kill an Enemy Using an Exploding Mummy's Self-Destruction Attack. If you shoot the large mummies while they're still standing in a cluster, it's likely that one will explode, destroying the others. You'll then receive a ring: the FROZEN MARK OF SET'S ASCETIC (Cold Resistance, Defense+, Speed+, Ammo Efficiency+, 10% Cheaper Items). Then finish off the remaining enemies. In the single-player game, it may help to create a bottleneck by retreating up the stairs to the southwest then shooting/bombing enemies as they approach. (screenshots)

Once the area is clear, gather up all the dropped gems and supplies and go back for the MAX HEALTH UPGRADE. In the single-player game, hop over to the ledge to the left of the drawbridge and pull the golden handle to temporarily lower the bars near the upgrade. The ice vent to the left stays on, so you'll have to take the long way around. Jump back onto the bridge, run/roll along the ledge on the left, and then jump across the gap to snag the upgrade. (screenshot)

In co-op mode, there is no golden handle. Instead one player needs to stand on the middle pressure pad to lower the bars so another character can retrieve the upgrade. Stepping on the pressure pad beneath the upgrade deactivates the ice vent and prevents the bars from closing again so you can now move freely along the ledge. (screenshot)

Before leaving this area, don't forget to light the 2 braziers (18-19/51) on the ledge with the pressure pads for the brazier challenge. The next brazier (20/51) is in the lower corner of the wide walkway to the right of the drawbridge. It's partially hidden behind one of the broken columns. The next 2 braziers (21-22/51) are on either side of the same walkway, at the top of the stairs. (screenshots)

MULTI-LEVEL ROOM WITH CIRCULAR ICE VENTS: When you enter this room, the gate closes trapping you inside, and the ice vents in the floor activate. These are similar to the ones in the Tomb of the Pharaoh. Each vent glows white just before it activates, giving you a moment to move out of the way. Even if you equip items that confer cold resistance, you'll still take damage if you stand on or jump over an active vent, but you will not be slowed by the cold.

Start by killing all the enemies that appear. Then climb onto the ledge on the upper left and use a remote bomb, grenade, or rocket to blast the frozen gear. This opens the gate on the ledge at the upper right. Climb up onto the ledge with the glowing sphere. (screenshots)

Before pushing the sphere off the edge, light the brazier (23/51) for the brazier challenge. In the single-player game, the brazier is attached to the golden grapple ring. In co-op it's sitting in the middle of the ledge. (screenshots)

In single-player mode, grapple the golden ring, and rappel down to the pressure pad mounted on the wall. Stepping on it opens one of the small gates, behind which you'll find ICY DEATH, a moderately powerful weapon that occasionally freezes enemies. In the single-player game the gate stays open permanently. In 2-player co-op Lara must grapple the ring and stand on the pad to hold the gate open while the other character retrieves the weapon. In 3- or 4-player co-op there is no golden ring, so one player must use the grapple to lower another onto the pressure pad, while a third goes for the weapon. (screenshots)

Continue to avoid the active ice vents as you roll the glowing sphere off the ledge and down to the lower level. Position it beneath the ledge on the left. Then use a remote bomb to blast the sphere up onto the ledge, but do not roll the ball into the cage yet. First, roll it over to the left and use it to climb up into the raised alcove with the red skull (2/5). In the single-player game, if you put the ball in the cage before retrieving the skull, you're out of luck and will have to replay the level to get it. In co-op, you don't need the ball to reach the skull. Just use one of the Egyptians' bubble shields for a boost. When you're ready to move on, roll the ball into the metal cage to deactivate the ice vents and open the exit. (screenshots)

NOTE: The gate at the entrance to this room also re-opens in case you missed anything in the previous area.

Follow the corridor to the next area, using the AMMO CACHE in the corner if you need it and lighting 4 more braziers (24-27/51) for the brazier challenge before stepping through the open gate. (screenshots)

POOL WITH FROZEN ISLANDS: As you enter this area, the gate closes behind you. Then, when you hop over to the nearest ice island 3 Marks of Set appear and begin to disgorge enemies. Keep moving but try not to run through the Marks or fall into the pool as you fight. The cold water won't hurt you, but you may end up taking damage while swimming around looking for place to climb out. In the single-player game, it's probably best to stick to the higher, C-shaped part of the larger mass of ice and just keep moving back and forth. This strategy is detailed below. (screenshots)

The gate to the northeast does not open until you've defeated the last enemy, so even if you're attempting the 10-minute time challenge, you'll have to fight them all. You can save a little time by using the Staff to close the Marks. If you're going for the score challenge, you'll want to fight all the enemies for points—and of course try to avoid taking damage in order to keep your score multiplier maxed.

If you have not already beaten the Challenge: Kill an Enemy Using an Exploding Mummy's Self-Destruction Attack, this is another opportunity. Shoot or bomb one of the large mummies when it's standing near other enemies, and you'll be rewarded with theFROZEN MARK OF SET'S ASCETIC (Cold Resistance, Defense+, Speed+, Ammo Efficiency+, 10% Cheaper Items). (screenshots)

In addition to the enemies that emerge through the Marks, other foes pop up here and there, including a giant ice skeleton carrying a shield. To defeat the giant skeleton, you must either attack it from behind, bomb its shield away, or use armor-penetrating weapons. I prefer the railgun (unlocked by beating the gold point challenge in Tomb of the Torturer), since there's no risk of accidentally injuring yourself or your teammates, as sometimes happens with grenades/rockets. You can also move back and forth along the top curve of the island, leading enemies behind you. Drop remote bombs as you go to kill or at least weaken pursuing enemies. Turn and fire as the survivors come toward you. Then run/roll past them and repeat the process. There's plenty of room here to maneuver, and you should be fast enough to stay ahead of most enemies. Before too long your bombs should take care of the skeleton, or you can shoot it to finish it off. (screenshots)

When you destroy the last enemy, the exit opens, releasing a shower of gems. (The entrance also re-opens in case you missed anything in the previous area.) If you're not attempting the time challenge, take a few minutes to explore the room, gathering gems, health, and ammo. Swim down to the lower corner to find a red skull (3/5) sitting on a small island. When you have everything, head up the stairs to the northeast. Be sure to light the brazier (28/51) on the right side of the staircase for the brazier challenge. (screenshots)

TIME BOMB AND LEDGE WITH ICE VENTS BELOW: There are 3 more braziers (29-31/51) here which you can light for the challenge. One is on the right side of the room; the others are in the alcove behind the time bomb. (screenshot)

To open the gate on the right, raise the Staff and grab the time bomb, taking care to pull it away from the round ice vent where it is sitting. If you push it across the vent, you'll take damage. Roll the bomb across the room and use it to plug up any of the round ice vents at the base of the wall. Still holding up the Staff, climb onto the bomb and pull up onto the ledge above. Once you're safely at the top, you can let the bomb explode. light the brazier (32/51) in the right corner at the top of the stairs for the brazier challenge. Then descend the stairs and step on the pressure pad to open the gate. (screenshots)

Now grab another time bomb. Keeping the Staff raised to prevent the bomb from exploding, roll it across the room, up the stairs, and onto one of the round ice vents off to the left. Jump over the bomb to clear the vents safely. Grab the bomb from the other side and roll it onto one of the ice vents in the next row. Jump over it once more. Then grab it from the other side and roll it to the end of the hallway. Position the bomb against the crumbling wall and let it explode to open the way forward. (screenshots)

If you run out of time and the bomb explodes before you manage to destroy the wall, use the pressure pads on the ledge near the ice vents to open the gates so you can return downstairs and get another bomb. When you blow up the wall these gates open automatically, allowing you to backtrack if you missed anything. (screenshots)

Before leaving this area, light 2 more braziers (33-34/51) for the brazier challenge. They're at opposite ends of the corridor where you used the time bomb to blow up the crumbling wall. There's another brazier (35/51) in the left corner just before the stairs leading up to the next area. (screenshots)

SECOND TIME BOMB - SIDE AREA WITH AMMO UPGRADE: Continue upstairs. Here you'll find 2 more braziers (36-37/51) that you can light for the brazier challenge: one on the left side of the room, one in the alcove behind the time bomb. (screenshot)

If you're attempting the 10-minute time challenge, skip this section and go right for the LARGE ROOM WITH ICE VENTS LINING THE FLOOR, below. Otherwise, raise the Staff, grab the time bomb, and roll it up the stairs to the lower right. Use the bomb to plug either of the round ice vents so you can jump over it. Then grab the bomb from the other side and roll it into either of the next pair of ice vents. Jump over the bomb and then jump across the wide gap onto the ledge to the upper right. You can now let the bomb explode. Step on the square pressure pad to open the gate next to it. This will enable you to get back downstairs. (screenshots)

Light 5 more braziers (38-42/51) for the brazier challenge. One is on the stairs below the first pair of ice vents. One is next to the pressure pad. One is in the corner near the second pair of ice vents. To reach the fourth, jump back across to the pressure pad, then jump to the next ledge on the right, where you'll find the brazier attached to the golden grapple ring in the single-player version or standing off on its own in the co-op game. The fifth brazier is on the next ledge to the left, the one with the single round column and the ice vents below. (screenshots)

In order to retrieve the MAX AMMO UPGRADE hovering below, in the single-player game, stand on the upper left side of the ledge with the single, round column and grapple the golden ring across the gap. Move around the left side of the column and then step toward the lower right edge so the grapple cable wraps around the column. Now step off the edge and rappel down the wall, taking care to stand between the 2 sets of ice vents mounted on the wall. Once you're hanging below the ice vents, wall-run to the left a little to snag the upgrade. Then climb back up the way you came and return through the gate near the pressure pad to the room below. (screenshots)

In the co-op game, there is no golden ring. Instead there's a second pressure pad. Have any character stand on it to deactivate the ice vents on the ledge with the round column. Then Lara or Carter can jump across and light brazier #42. The archaeologist can then grapple the other character while s/he remains on the pad. Once the grapple is secure, the archaeologist should move around the left side of the column so the grapple cable wraps around it. He or she can then rappel down the wall to get the upgrade. The character standing on the pressure pad should stay there until the other climbs up and jumps back over the ice vents. Then both/all can return through the gate near the pressure pad to the room below. (screenshot)

NOTE: I experienced a bug in the single-player game in which this ammo upgrade did not appear. I don't know what causes this or how to fix it, but I hope you won't have the same problem.

LARGE ROOM WITH ICE VENTS LINING THE FLOOR: Once again, keeping the Staff raised, grab another time bomb and roll it up the stairs to the next room. Let go of the bomb momentarily but continue holding up the staff as you pull the golden handle as far as it will go. This temporarily extinguishes some of the ice vents in the first section of trapped floor ahead. In order to cross safely, you'll need to roll the bomb onto active vents that have safe spots both ahead and behind. It takes quite a while for the handle to completely retract, but if you take too long the vents will reactivate, so don't dawdle. In the co-op game, this is not a problem. One player can keep the handle extended while the other moves the bomb. (screenshots)

To clear the first set of ice vents, start by pushing the bomb onto the second vent from the left. Then jump over the bomb onto the safe vent on the other side of it. Grab the bomb and carefully maneuver it onto the active vent to the left. Try and stay in the corner where it's safe so you don't take cold damage. Then jump over the bomb once more to land on the clear walkway near the second golden handle. (screenshots)

If you've done this fairly quickly and the light on the time bomb is still green, you can attempt the second part of the sequence now. This will help save time if you're attempting the 10-minute challenge. In this case, skip the next paragraph.

Otherwise, after crossing the first set of ice vents, let the time bomb explode as you head up the stairs to the long ledge on the right. Step on the pressure pad. This deactivates the first set of vents and opens the gate so you can go back downstairs and grab another time bomb. Then, keeping the Staff raised to slow the countdown, roll the bomb up the stairs to the next room. Push it across the first section of ice vents, which should now be deactivated. Occasionally one or two of the vents stay on, so just avoid them. (screenshots)

To clear the second set of ice vents, let go of the bomb for a moment but continue holding up the Staff as you pull the second handle all the way out. This temporarily extinguishes several of the ice vents in the next trapped section. Roll the bomb onto the first active vent in the second row from the left. (There's a dark vent in front of it and 3 dark vents beyond it.) Jump over the bomb. Then carefully grab it, step onto the safe vent on the left, and then maneuver the bomb 2 spaces forward onto the next active vent. Jump over the bomb onto the next dark vent to the right. Grab the bomb, step back onto the safe vent to the lower right, and then push the bomb forward onto the second vent from the left in the last row. Jump over the bomb onto the clear walkway. (screenshots)

If the light on the time bomb is still green or has just turned yellow, you can try the third part of the sequence now. If you're attempting the 10-minute challenge, this can shave off a few precious seconds. Otherwise I wouldn't risk it. If you want to push ahead without getting a new bomb, skip the next paragraph.

Otherwise, let the time bomb explode as you climb the stairs to the long ledge on the right. Step on the pressure pad. This deactivates the second set of ice vents and opens another gate so you can return downstairs and get another time bomb. Just like before, keep the Staff raised as you roll the bomb up the stairs. Maneuver the bomb across the first and second sets of ice vents, which should be all or mostly dark at this point. (screenshots)

To clear the third set of ice vents, let go of the bomb momentarily and pull the third golden handle all the way out. This temporarily deactivates some of the ice vents in the third trapped section. Roll the bomb onto the first active ice vent on the left and Jump over it onto the dark vent beyond. Then carefully grab the bomb and maneuver it 2 spaces forward and one to the right. Jump over the bomb again. Grab it from the other side and roll it around to the left, over 2 dark vents and onto the active vent at the base of the wall (i.e., the third vent from the left corner). Jump on top of the bomb and then jump up to grab the ledge above. Once you pull up, you're safe and can let the bomb explode. (screenshots)

Follow the ledge to the right. If you're doing the 10-minute time challenge, continue northeast to the final area. If you want to beat the red skull and brazier challenges, don't leave yet. Instead descend the stairs to the long ledge that runs alongside the ice vents. (screenshots)

Notice the red skull (4/5) in the little room behind the crumbling wall. To get it, step on the third pressure pad on this ledge to deactivate the third section of ice vents and open the gate nearby. Return downstairs and get another time bomb. Again, keeping the Staff raised to prevent the bomb from exploding prematurely, roll it up the stairs. Maneuver the bomb across all three sets of ice vents, which should be all or mostly dark at this point. Finally, roll the bomb into the corner next to the crumbling wall. Step out of the way and let the bomb explode. You can now retrieve the red skull (4/5). (screenshots)

Before leaving this area, make sure to light 7 more braziers (43-49/51) for the brazier challenge. The first brazier (43/51) is in the right corner of the large room with all the ice vents. There are 4 braziers (44-47/51) on the long ledge with the pressure pads and another brazier (48/51) at the left end of the ledge above the third set of ice vents, near where you climbed up using the bomb for a boost. Now continue to the northeast. Just before the open gate, there's a bunch of breakable urns with a brazier (49/51) sitting between them. (screenshots)

COLLAPSING BRIDGE AND RACE TO THE EXIT: The main goal here is simply to survive as you make a frantic run across the collapsing tiles to the exit, but there's also a Challenge: Grab All of the Gems on the Collapsing Bridge. You may want to read through this whole section before starting out. It describes the layout of the course, followed by tips on what to do if you fall through the floor and fail the challenge.

My friend Treeble has also done a great quick video walkthrough for the gem challenge.

Before you begin, use the health pack if necessary and equip items that increase your character's speed. Then step through the open gate. When you approach the bars, they open as the ones behind close. Then the floor starts to collapse, forcing you to run forward. (screenshots)

Since each tile collapses shortly after you step on it, it helps to weave from side to side in a serpentine pattern as you work your way forward, snagging gems as you go. Then you'll be less likely to step on the same tiles twice. Also watch out for the white circles that occasionally appear in front of you. Like the lightning and meteor hazards in other levels, these circles indicate tiles that are about to be struck by falling rocks. (screenshots)

About 3/4 of the way along the bridge, you'll come to a cluster of 5 gems, followed by a tricky section where you need to jump to the left, then back to the right in order to retrieve 3 more single gems near the middle of the bridge. After this, veer back to the middle-right to get the final red skull (5/5). It's hovering above a gap in the floor, so you'll have to jump through it to get it. If you've found all 5 skulls, you'll receive a MAX AMMO UPGRADE. The last gem for the challenge is sitting just beyond the skull. Run over it and continue forward. (screenshots)

At the end of the bridge, large, white circles appear across the entire width of the floor, warning of an impending rockfall, so run/roll onto the safe ledge ahead as quickly as you can, but unless you're attempting the 10-minute challenge don't run through the exit yet. (screenshots)

During the run, if you fall through the floor and die, the game reloads the previous checkpoint, between the two gates; however, you lose 1,000 points. (This only happens the first time, though. If you die more than once, you still lose only 1,000 points.) If you're attempting the gold score challenge and can't afford to lose points, or if you reach the end of the bridge but missed some gems and/or the red skull, you can reset without penalty by pausing the game and choosing reload checkpoint from the menu. As long as you don't go through the exit, triggering the next checkpoint, you can retry the sequence as many times as you like. (screenshots)

I have not yet beaten this challenge in the co-op game, but it seems like the best strategy would be to assign one player to the left side of the collapsing walkway and the other to the right. Then you're less likely to accidentally collapse the floor where your partner is about to land. I'm honestly not sure how this would work in 3- or 4-player co-op. You may be better off just getting through the course and then replaying solo to finish this challenge.

Beating the gem challenge unlocks a ring: the FROZEN BAND OF SET'S FAVOR (Torch Range+, Magic Shield Life+, Rate of Fire+, Weapon Damage+, Ice Armor).

The last 2 braziers (50-51/51) for the brazier challenge are just before the level exit. Unless you're doing the time challenge, be sure to light them before running through. If you've managed to light all 51, you'll receive a MAX HEALTH UPGRADE. (screenshot)

If you completed the level in less than 10 minutes, you now receive the BRONZE HEDJET FLAIL amulet (Power Shot, Bomb Damage+, Bomb Reload+). If you scored 95,000 points or more you will have already unlocked the FROZEN PENDANT OF SET'S CHOSEN (Ice Projectiles, Ice Bomb, Scatter Shot, Regenerating Health, Ice Aura).

Beyond the level exit is the usual TREASURE ROOM. Since this is a bonus level, you don't get another Osiris body part, but rather a sweet statue of the deity. And of course there are health packs and ammo boxes, along with a selection of treasure chests you can open using gems you've collected. To return to the Overworld, stand on the round tile with the golden glyph and press the button indicated.

NOTE: Once you've completed this level you can replay it at any time by re-entering it from the Overworld. You'll probably need at least two passes to complete all the challenges.
