NOTES ON THE REMASTER: At this point I can't guarantee 100% accuracy for this guide. Updates are in progress but will take time. Levels that have been worked on will say "Remastered," rather than "Classic," in the title. In the meantime, I have attempted to provide a running count of all kills and pickups, including totals for health packs, chocolates, sellable items, and cash, as well as notebook entries, which are needed for some achievements/trophies. If I've missed any, I do apologize. Please let me know if you discover anything not mentioned here. Also, in case it's not obvious, these guides are based on classic tank controls, and I have not yet included strats for all achievements/trophies.
LEVEL 5: PARISIAN GHETTO (Remaster)
Updated: 3/13/25(†)
LEVEL MAP by VGCartography (used with permission)*
Angel of Darkness Remastered Video Walkthrough by Eldincy
Items: 6, including 1 health item, 1 chocolate, 2 treasure, Ex-Janitor's Key (or Bartender's Key and Café Owner's Contact from the Café Métro, if you choose to help Pierre rather than Bernard)
Cash: 960 euros (plus 80 euros in the tunnels)
Kills: none
Upgrades: none
Notebook Entries: 9 (plus 1 from the Herbalist)
NOTES: The stats above only include various maps that make up the Parisian Ghetto proper. There are several small but separate side areas: the Café Métro, St. Aicard's Church, Willowtree Herbalist, and Rennes' Pawnshop. Their walkthroughs are included on this page, with separate item counts. The Abandoned Métro Tunnels are split between two levels: Bouchard's Hideout and Parisian Ghetto. If you check the Statistics section in your Inventory, you'll notice that each time a new area loads, it has a separate item/kill count. Hopefully this won't cause too much confusion. Each map has a bold blue heading in the walkthrough, and I've attempted to track every pickup.
PARISIAN GHETTO - ABANDONED TRAIN CAR & COURS DE LA SEINE
AREA STATS: This starting area includes 2 pickups (1 health, 1 chocolate) and 3 stacks of cash totaling €480. (statistics)
ABANDONED TRAIN CAR: As you move toward the exit, ahead on the left, Lara wonders what Von Croy got himself into. The game then prompts you to peruse the first 19 entries in VON CROY'S NOTEBOOK (1-19/62). The notebook is detailed in the previous level and on this separate page. Be sure to flip through all entries, since reading them counts toward the "Memento Mori" achievement/trophy.
Exit the train car, turn left, and approach the homeless men around the fire. (screenshot)
Dialogue - Homeless Man: Ask the man with the dog about Louis Bouchard. You won't get much info, but he does suggest you try the Café Métro.
Return to the train car. Climb onto the pipe alongside it and jump up to grab the top of the car. Pull up, cross the top of the car, and crawl under the big pipe to get a large health pack (1). The camera shifts to a wide view, and Lara says, "I can climb that easily." Jump and grab the chain-link fence on the wall. Climb up and to the right. Drop onto the wide grating ledge. (screenshots)
As you walk out toward the middle of the ledge, the notebook icon appears, indicating you've unlocked 2 more notebook entries (20-21/62). Open Inventory, scroll down and select Notebook, then page to the right to see the updates: "Find items to pawn for cash" and "Buy health items." (screenshots)
NOTE: If you took the shortcut in the INDUSTRIAL ROOFTOPS and missed the strength upgrade, Lara won't be able to make the next long jump. Don't worry. You can return here later after getting the upgrade in THE SERPENT ROUGE level. I'll remind you later.
Turn back toward the homeless men. Take a few steps back from the edge. Then take a running jump to grab the next wide grating ledge. Pull up. Notice the items on the other side of the chain-link fence to the right. To get there, walk to the edge and jump onto the narrow ledge along the wall ahead. (Do not grab, since Lara doesn't seem to want to pull up here, and eventually she'll lose her grip and fall, losing a little health. You'll then have to climb all the way back up.) Walk along the narrow ledge to the right, through the rip in the fence, and onto the perpendicular ledge. Pick up the goodies: €160 cash and a chocolate bar (2). Walk back onto the narrow ledge. Follow it past the torn fence, turn left, and jump onto the metal walkway. Take a running jump to grab the other wide ledge and pull up. Move to the left end of the ledge and jump through the gap in the fence onto the perpendicular ledge. (screenshots)
Approach the man in the puffer vest standing by the 'RUE PERDUE' sign and speak to him to learn more. (screenshots)
Dialogue - "City Guide": This guy obviously knows the neighborhood, but he is cautious about what he reveals. It doesn't really matter which dialogue options you choose; you'll get the same basic story either way. He'll tell you a bit more about Bouchard and the Monstrum. Bouchard runs a club called Le Serpent Rouge but had some trouble recently involving the grisly deaths of a number of his staff. The young man also suggests you try Café Métro for more info, but if you ask about the café's owner, he says the guy's a loser.
After speaking with the "guide", your notebook is updated (22/62): "Find Bouchard's club, Le Serpent Rouge." Follow the wall to the right and around the corner. At the end you'll find €160 cash at the bottom of some steps. Backtrack to the guy you just talked to and go through the door next to him. (screenshots)
COURS DE LA SEINE/JANICE: You emerge on a nearly deserted street near LE SERPENT ROUGE, which is closed. Approach the lady in red.
Dialogue - Janice: It is important to talk to her. She will give you some useful information, and speaking with her also unlocks future dialogue options. Again, it doesn't matter which options you choose when questioning her. You'll get all the crucial info, regardless. Like the others you've met, she advises you to be wary of Bouchard. She doesn't know where he is now but suggests you might find out from one of Bouchard's ex-employees. Bernard, the former janitor, now frequents the park. Pierre, the ex-barman, now runs the Café Métro. She also mentions she heard on the radio that something terrible happened to a woman named Carvier. After this conversation, your notebook has been updated 4 times (23-26/62): "Find Café Métro in Place d'Arcade;" "Find Bouchard's new premises;" "Find Bernard, ex-Janitor at the club;" and, "Contact café owner, Pierre, ex-barman at the club."
Afterwards, be to be sure to pick up another €160 cash beneath the overhang just across the street from Janice and Le Serpent Rouge. (screenshot)
At this point, you may want to get the lie of the land by referring to the annotated level map by VGCartography. Or, if you're wary of possible spoilers, simply refer to the in-game district maps. There's one right across the road from Janice. (screenshot) Approach any of these signs and press Action for a close-up view. Press Action again to close the map. Each map has a white bullseye "you-are-here" marker and shows the buildings where all the major activity occurs. The street signs will also direct you to points of interest.
NOTE: Examining all 3 district maps unlocks the "Cartophile" achievement/trophy. In addition to the one near Janice, there's another map on the way to the CAFÉ MÉTRO (screenshot) and another in the PARC DE LA LUNE, where you'll meet Bernard (screenshot). I'll include reminders as we go.
You may notice the manhole covers in the streets near the SERPENT ROUGE. These lead down into the ABANDONED MÉTRO TUNNELS. You can interact with the manholes to enter the tunnels at any time, but you'll need a strength upgrade to complete that area. So I recommend waiting until you've finished THE SERPENT ROUGE LEVEL. (See below.)
RENNES PAWNSHOP is located just down the Cours de la Seine from where Janice is standing. (screenshot) You can visit at any time, but it is covered later, to minimize backtracking.
IMPORTANT: Now you must decide which ex-employee you'd like to meet. Once you've agreed to help one of them in exchange for information, you won't be able to make a deal with the other man. In theory, this choice doesn't matter, since you'll end up in the same place regardless; however, there are a few minor differences between the two errands:
It's possible to get all three NPC-related achievements/trophies with a little creative reloading. See the footnote for details. Each errand is covered below.
You're welcome to explore the district freely, but since this is a walkthrough, we'll choose a path that covers everything. Start by climbing the steps across the street from Janice. (screenshot) At the top, a new area loads.
PARISIAN GHETTO - NORTHWEST
AREA STATS: This area has no regular pickups, just the cash mentioned below. (statistics)
At the top of the steps, make a U-turn to the left to find €160 cash lying on the ground in the small open area with benches. (screenshot)
CAFE MÉTRO
AREA STATS: 2 pickups, 2 notebook entries (optional and not counted in PARISIAN GHETTO stats) (statistics)
The café Janice and the City Guide mentioned is in the northwest corner of the district in the Place d'Arcade. There's a district map on the left side of the street just before the entrance to the Place d'Arcade. (screenshot/map) Pierre, the owner, is one possible route to Bouchard. Do not speak to him if you intend to do Bernard's mission, or if you want to unlock all 3 NPC-related achievements, as described in the footnote. (Or, save first, try him, then reload.) You will receive the 2 pickups for this area only if you choose to accept his bargain. For details see "FIND BOUCHARD THROUGH PIERRE," below.
Kurtis Trent, whom Lara will encounter again later, is sitting in a corner of the café. You can speak to him if you like, but he's not very talkative. (screenshot)
PARISIAN GHETTO - NORTHEAST
AREA STATS: This map includes 4 pickups (statistics)
NOTE: One of these items is a key (item 8, below) that you only obtain if you agree to help Bernard. (You'll get a different key in the CAFÉ MÉTRO if you choose to help Pierre.) The other pickups for this map are located in the ABANDONED MÉTRO TUNNELS, below.
BOUCHARD'S DOORMAN: The Doorman, a burly guy wearing massive gold chains, is posted behind the large gate on Rue Dominique, to the left of ST. AICARD'S CHURCH. (screenshot) He can also get you to Bouchard, but you do need to start things in motion by first agreeing to help either Bernard or Pierre. Once you retrieve the TRINKET BOX from THE SERPENT ROUGE, you can give it to the Doorman, along with €800, and he'll let Lara into ST. AICARD'S GRAVEYARD. If you don't have these things when you speak to him, he'll be noncommittal.
Entering the graveyard via the Doorman unlocks the "Spendthrift" achievement/trophy. (Again, see the footnote for how to unlock this without permanently losing money and opportunities.)
IMPORTANT: If you decide to talk to the doorman after collecting the trinket box, be sure to save the game first. If Lara has the box and the money, he will usher her into the graveyard, whether or not you agree. You will miss a notebook update if you choose this option.
ST. AICARD'S CHURCH INTERIOR
AREA STATS: 5 pickups, including 1 health item (statistics)
NOTE: These pickups are not included in the PARISIAN GHETTO totals at the top of the page.
St. Aicard's Church is no longer a house of worship but a gym. It is located in the northeast corner of the district, at the right end of the Rue Dominique, across the street from the PARC DE LA LUNE (where you meet Bernard). (screenshot)
Inside, Lara can talk to the trainer and place a wager on the boxers. (screenshot) It's 200 euros against the trainer's gold watch (1 - St. Aicard's). The odds seem to be 50-50, so you might want to save the game before betting. If you win, you'll unlock the "Bet Girl" achievement/trophy. Later, you can sell the watch at RENNES' PAWNSHOP (below).
In the original game, you could get a strength upgrade by pushing the carved stone block in the niche at the front of the church. However, this upgrade didn't appear to actually benefit Lara, and it's not present in the remaster. You can still push the block to the left and use it climb up into the rafters, where you'll find several items: a small medipack, a diamond ring, M-V9 ammo, and Vector ammo (2-5 - St. Aicard's). Moving around in the rafters is a tricky business, so I'd recommend saving again first. (For details, check this separate page with screenshots.)
For the "Player Three Connected" achievement/trophy, you'll need to get into the ring with the boxers. This is more difficult than it looks, since there are invisible walls surrounding the ring. Save first, since Lara will die in the attempt. I was able to do it by dropping in from the rafters, as shown here. (You can also cheese it by attempting to commando crawl under the ropes, as Treeble demonstrates in this video.)
NOTE: You will briefly revisit the church at the end of the BOUCHARD'S HIDEOUT. This is covered in the guide for that level.
WILLOWTREE HERBALIST
AREA STATS: no collectibles, 1 notebook entry (statistics)
This shop is located on the east side of the district (map). If Lara is standing with her back to the entrance of ST. AICARD'S CHURCH, facing the PARC DE LA LUNE, the herbalist's is ahead on the left, about halfway down the Rue de Piolet, at the top of the concrete steps. (screenshot) If you enter and talk to the herbalist, he will offer to sell you various health items. (screenshot) Purchase a poison antidote for €50 to unlock the "Nehushtan" achievement/trophy. (screenshot)
NOTE: You'll actually get 2 antidotes the first time, thanks to this week's Willowtree BOGO special offer. Purchased supplies do not count as "official" pickups. If cash is tight, wait to do this until you've unlocked the "Cash Overload" achievement/trophy for earning more than €3500. Later, you can return and buy more supplies if you like. Antidotes will be especially useful later in the game. Be sure to save €800 for one more major purchase, which will unlock an achievement/trophy when you reach Prague.
Speak to the herbalist again for additional information about how to get to Bouchard through his doorman. Your notebook is updated (27/62): "Find Bouchard's Doorman." (See above.)
FIND BOUCHARD THROUGH BERNARD: The PARC DE LA LUNE is in the northeast corner of the district. The entrance is on the north side, opposite ST. AICARD'S CHURCH. (screenshots/map) Enter through the gate below the "Métropolitain" sign. Bernard is feeding the pigeons...or drinking...or something. There is also a gated entrance to the underground tunnels that doesn't open from this side. (screenshot) This area is covered in the ABANDONED MÉTRO TUNNELS section, below. Save the game before speaking to Bernard.
Dialogue - Bernard the Janitor: Choose the more polite dialogue options ("Your name's Bernard...," "I'm trying to find someone," and, "Here, now how do I find Bouchard?"), otherwise Bernard will take your money and still refuse to help you. Agree to find Bernard's trinket box inside the Serpent Rouge—and pay him €160—and he will help you get to Bouchard. If you don't have enough money, if you have already agreed to help Pierre, or if you have not yet spoken to Janice, then Bernard is uncooperative. If you're short on cash, you can sell items at Rennes' Pawnshop then return to Bernard, but once you've made an agreement with Pierre, you can't deal with Bernard. If you do alienate Bernard, you can still deal with Pierre. To find him, exit the park, turn left, and follow the Rue Dominique all the way to the end (screenshot), where you'll find the CAFÉ MÉTRO (below).
After this conversation, your notebook is updated (28/62): "Retrieve the 'Box' at Serpent Rouge. In broken lighting rig." Also, you now have the EX-JANITOR'S KEY (3) in your inventory. Examine the district map (one of three for the "Cartophile" achievement/trophy). Then leave the park and turn right onto the Rue de Piolet. Go down the hill. (The next map loads on the way.) At the bottom of the hill, where the truck blocks the road, turn right onto the Cours de la Seine. You'll find the nightclub's garage entrance just ahead on the left. (You can see Janice in the distance.) Enter using Bernard's key. Follow the SERPENT ROUGE - BERNARD walkthrough to find the TRINKET BOX. (screenshots)
- OR -
FIND BOUCHARD THROUGH PIERRE: The CAFÉ MÉTRO is located in the northwest corner of the map, in the Place d'Arcade, at the opposite end of the Rue Dominique from ST. AICARD'S CHURCH and THE PARC DE LA LUNE. Examine the district map as you pass it (one of three for the "Cartophile" achievement/trophy). Move past the concrete bollards at the entrance to the Place d'Arcade and you'll spot the café on the right, with a motorcycle parked outside. (screenshots/map)
Inside, Kurtis Trent is seated in a corner. You can interact with him, but he doesn't have much to say. Save the game first if you like. Then talk to Pierre. (screenshot)
Dialogue - Pierre the Bartender: It doesn't matter which dialogue option you choose here. Pierre will make a deal with you, and he won't even charge you for the privilege. Agree to retrieve his trinket box from the Serpent Rouge nightclub and he will help you get to Bouchard. If you have already agreed to help Bernard, or if you have not yet talked to Janice, then Pierre won't deal.
After agreeing to help Pierre, your notebook is updated (28/62, alternate): "Retrieve the 'Box' at Serpent Rouge. In broken lighting rig." You now have the BARTENDER'S KEY (item 1 for CAFÉ MÉTRO) in your inventory. Leave the café and turn left. Go past the concrete bollards. Turn right and continue to the stairs leading down. Descend to the Cours de la Seine, turn left and continue along the street past Janice and the club's main entrance. (screenshots)
Cut scene: Kurtis Trent emerges from an alley near the nightclub and peels out on his motorcycle. (Tellement emo!)
Pass the garage entrance and turn into the alley on the right (Rue de la Clef). Use Pierre's key to unlock the second door on the right and enter the club. Follow the SERPENT ROUGE - PIERRE walkthrough to find the TRINKET BOX. (screenshots)
ONCE YOU HAVE THE TRINKET BOX: Upon completing THE SERPENT ROUGE, Lara emerges on a ledge high above the Rue de la Clef. Climb down the ladder, drop through the hole in the floor, and go down the steps to an opening. Safety drop into the alley below. (screenshot)
At this point, there are still a few loose ends:
Or, if you don't care about 100% completion, return the TRINKET BOX to Bernard or Pierre, or take the box directly to Bouchard's doorman. All three options are detailed below.
ABANDONED MÉTRO TUNNELS
Items: 6, including 1 health item and 1 treasure, plus €400 cash
NOTE: These tunnels are technically part of the BOUCHARD'S HIDEOUT level but are included here because they are not physically connected to Bouchard's. The first 3 pickups are in BOUCHARD'S HIDEOUT (statistics). The rest (cash and 3 ammo items) are in the PARISIAN GHETTO NORTHEAST map (statistics). You should complete Bernard's or Pierre's errand before exploring the tunnels, since you'll need the strength upgrade from THE SERPENT ROUGE here.
Climb down into the tunnels through either manhole (in the Rue de la Clef behind LE SERPENT ROUGE or the Cours de la Seine near Janice). Follow the tunnel to a hub where four passages meet. If you came down through the manhole behind the Serpent Rouge, turn right at the four-way intersection. If you entered through the manhole in the Cours de la Seine, proceed straight ahead through the four-way intersection. (screenshots)
Continue to an open shaft. Walk carefully along the broken ledge to the right. Drop and hang from the ledge and traverse to the left onto the cracked wall. Climb down, then left, then up, into a doorway, where you'll find a diamond ring (1 - Bouchard's Hideout). Climb back up the cracked wall to the broken ledge above. (The return climb can be a little tricky. You may need to traverse along the broken ledge until Lara is facing the wall in order to pull up.) Position Lara in the doorway and take a running jump across the shaft to grab the other side. Pull up and collect a Vector clip (2 - Bouchard's Hideout) in the tunnel ahead. Climb the ladder to a room with various crates and pipes. (You can dismount on either side or press Jump to backflip off the ladder.) Enter the next room and kick open the door. (screenshots)
NOTE: If you didn't get the strength upgrade in THE SERPENT ROUGE, Lara will say she's not strong enough. You'll need to return the way you came, climb back up through the manhole to street level, then complete the SERPENT ROUGE in order to proceed.
Get the large health pack (3 - Bouchard's Hideout) then continue to a walkway overlooking the same open shaft you jumped across earlier. Follow the catwalk to the right to find a roll of €80 cash (counted in Bouchard's Hideout). To get back down quickly, take a step back from the end of the catwalk, then jump over the railing to land on the ledge below. (Or, return the way you came, through the previous room, down the ladder, and across the shaft.) Follow the tunnel back to the four-way intersection. (screenshots)
This time, follow the tunnel on the right. Climb onto the crate and jump up to grab the crumbling wall. Climb up, traverse to the right, and pull up on a small platform. Turn around and jump to the next platform. Turn right, step toward the wall, and jump straight up to grab the molding. Traverse to the right and pull up in the doorway. Crawl through to a small, dark room. Climb through the opening on the other side to re-enter the PARISIAN GHETTO. (screenshots)
NOTE: The remaining pickups are part of the PARISIAN GHETTO and are numbered accordingly. They will be items 2-4 on the PARISIAN GHETTO NORTHEAST map if you helped Bernard and received the EX-BARTENDER'S KEY. They will be items 1-3 if you helped Pierre, since his key is counted on the CAFÉ MÉTRO map. (I'm sorry this is so confusing. I'm trying.)
This is the gated entrance beneath the PARC DE LA LUNE (where you met Bernard, if you took that path). Pick up all the goodies on the floor: €320 cash (in two separate stacks), V-Packer cartridges (4 - Parisian Ghetto), a Desert Ranger clip (5 - Parisian Ghetto), and a Vector clip (6 - Parisian Ghetto). Exit through the gate near the items. Once you've opened it from the tunnel side, it should re-open from the park side if you need to return. (screenshots)
IMPORTANT: When you emerge from the tunnels, you can speak to Bernard or Pierre to return the TRINKET BOX, but do not interact with the Doorman or go to Pierre's ex's apartment until you're ready to enter the next level.
RENNES' PAWNSHOP
AREA STATS: 9 pickups (statistics)
NOTE: These 9 items are obtained when you revisit the shop after the BOUCHARD'S HIDEOUT level. Purchased items don't count.
This shop is located on the Cours de la Seine, just down the street from Janice and LE SERPENT ROUGE (to the left if Lara's back is to the door near Janice). (screenshot) Daniel Rennes will pay cash for various items Lara picks up during her stay in Paris (jewelry, Cognac, etc.). Don't worry about accidentally selling something you'll need later. He only buys things that aren't mission-critical.
The first time you speak with him, you can choose from two responses. Neither will alienate him, but you'll get a slightly longer response if you choose, "How concerned are you with legal niceties?"
You can visit him at any time before entering ST. AICARD'S GRAVEYARD, but I'd recommend waiting until you've completed ST. AICARD'S CHURCH, THE SERPENT ROUGE, and the ABANDONED MÉTRO TUNNELS. Then you'll have lots of items to sell. Speak to Rennes and choose 'Sell' from the menu. Then select and sell everything he'll buy. If you follow this guide, you'll earn more than €3500, enough to unlock the "Cash Overload" achievement/trophy.
Afterwards, interact with Rennes again and choose 'Purchase.' Buy the silencer and the laser sight for €500 each to unlock the "Pawn Promotion" achievement/trophy ("buy all the gun accessories at a pawn shop"). You can then spend the rest of your money here and/or at the WILLOWTREE HERBALIST. Just be sure to save save €800 for one more major purchase, which will unlock an achievement/trophy when you reach Prague.
NOTE: After purchasing the silencer and laser sight, you can combine them with various weapons in your inventory. The silencer works as advertised. The laser sight appears to give you slightly more range with any weapon, but it doesn't allow Lara to zoom in on specific targets, like it does in Last Revelation and Chronicles.
To avoid spoilers, the sequence where you revisit RENNES' PAWNSHOP after meeting Louis Bouchard is included in the walkthrough for BOUCHARD'S HIDEOUT.
IMPORTANT - POINT OF NO RETURN: Either before or immediately after turning over the TRINKET BOX to Bernard or Pierre, make sure you've visited RENNES' PAWNSHOP and bought/sold everything you want to. Once you enter the graveyard, you will not have another chance to trade with Rennes. Finally, if you choose to give the box to Bernard, rather than Pierre, you will miss 2 pickups and an achievement/trophy in Francine's apartment. If you like, you can cheat a little to get them. Details are in a footnote.
ENTERING ST. AICARD'S GRAVEYARD & BOUCHARD'S HIDEOUT: There are three possible routes into the graveyard.
If you retrieved the box for Bernard, find him in the PARC DE LA LUNE, where he was before. When you give him the box, he tells you the password: "pluie noir" (black rain...hmm...cryptic). Your notebook is updated (29/62): "Find the Doorman," and you unlock the "Pluie Noir" achievement/trophy. When you're ready to move on, approach Bouchard's Doorman with this info and he'll let Lara pass through to ST. AICARD'S GRAVEYARD.
- OR -
If you retrieved the box for Pierre, return it to him at the CAFÉ MÉTRO. When you bring him the box, he mentions that another customer, presumably Kurtis, was also asking about Bouchard. In exchange for the box, he gives you the security code for his ex-girlfriend Francine's apartment building. (Yes, apparently Pierre is a loser.) Your notebook is updated (29/62, alternate): "Contact Francine. 17 Rue Dominique. Code 15328," and you get a slip of paper, the CAFÉ OWNER'S CONTACT (item 2 for Café Métro), with the code on it. (screenshot)
To get to FRANCINE'S APARTMENT, leave the Café, go left past the concrete bollards into the Rue Dominique (with the crosswalk/zebra crossing) . Continue a short way to #17, on the left. Enter the security code you got from Pierre (15328) on the keypad. Inside, climb the short flight of stairs on the right and open the door to enter Francine's apartment. The rest is covered in the walkthrough for the next level, ST. AICARD'S GRAVEYARD. (screenshots)
- OR -
In the unlikely event that you're a fan of extortion, give the box and €800 to Bouchard's Doorman, behind the gate near the church on the Rue Dominique, and he'll let you into the GRAVEYARD. (screenshot)
†UPDATE HISTORY: Updates made prior to the Tomb Raider IV-V-VI Remastered release, including credit for tips sent in by other players, are tracked in the archived classic guide.
2/20/25 - Added VGCartography's level maps, with permission. Visit VGCartography on DeviantArt and follow on Twitter/X and YouTube for more fantastic game maps.
3/8/25 - Remastered guide posted. Includes many changes from the original, including a note on how to get the first few pickups if you missed the strength upgrade in the INDUSTRIAL ROOFTOPS. Thanks to Krystal for her help troubleshooting.
3/13/25 - VGCartography maps updated with the latest versions.
*NOTE ON LEVEL MAPS: VGCartography's Angel of Darkness maps follow a slightly different level-naming convention than I do. You'll notice most of the Parisian Ghetto-adjacent areas on the same large map. Later, the elemental levels off the Hall of Seasons are included on the same map as the hub level.
UNLOCKING THREE NPC ACHIEVEMENTS/TROPHIES IN ONE PLAYTHROUGH: To unlock all three NPC-related achievements/trophies—"Pluie Noir" (Bernard), "Kleptomaniac" (Pierre), and "Spendthrift" (Doorman)—plus a few others, do Bernard's errand to get the trinket box, but don't return it to him yet. Explore the ABANDONED MÉTRO TUNNELS if you like, then pawn all your items at RENNES' PAWNSHOP to unlock the "Cash Overload" achievement/trophy. Buy the silencer and laser sights from Rennes to unlock "Pawn Promotion." Before, during, or after the above, visit the gym in ST. AICARD'S CHURCH to unlock "Bet Girl" and "Player Three Connected." Visit the WILLOWTREE HERBALIST to to buy an antidote (or several) for the "Nehushtan" achievement/trophy. Then speak to the herbalist again for the notebook entry about the Doorman. Approach BOUCHARD'S DOORMAN, behind the gate on the Rue Dominique, and save the the game before interacting with him. Give the Doorman €800 and the trinket box, and he'll let you into the graveyard, unlocking the "Spendthrift" achievement/trophy.
Reload your save and take the trinket box to Bernard. He'll give you the password and you'll unlock "Pluie Noir." Then follow the Rue Dominique past the gate with the DOORMAN and under the archway. When the next area loads, Francine's building, #17, is just ahead on the right. Use the keypad to enter the code you would have gotten from Pierre (15328). (screenshot) Enter and climb the short flight of stairs on the right, and open the door to enter Francine's apartment. When you steal the sports watch from the drawer behind Francine, as described in the walkthrough for the next level, ST. AICARD'S GRAVEYARD, you'll unlock "Kleptomaniac." Continue through the graveyard to BOUCHARD'S HIDEOUT.
I don't know if "Chocollection" (for picking up all chocolate bars but not eating any) is possible using Bernard's path, but I'll update when I get there.
