NOTES ON THE REMASTER: I have attempted to provide running kill, item, and secret counts. (Details are in a footnote following the first-level walkthrough.) I have also tried to cover all achievements/trophies, except New Game+. These guides are based on classic tank controls, but I hope they will be useful for those using modern controls. Follow this link for the archived classic guide. Chronicles does not include a "Restart Level" option, so I recommend making a new save at the beginning of each level in case you need to replay. Follow this link for Steam/GOG save files.

Pickups: 2, the Spear of Destiny and 1 Golden Rose Secret*
Kills: none
IMPORTANT: If you're hunting achievements/trophies, save the game as soon as the level starts and do not overwrite this save until you've unlocked all three. The most challenging is "Stress Level Zero," which requires you to collect the secret and the SPEAR OF DESTINY without activating the stress meter at the top left corner of the screen. (screenshot) This meter pops up if you scrape against anything in the environment or if Lara gets hit by a torpedo. I recommend doing a trial run or two, unlocking the other two achievements in the process. Then reload your level-start save and attempt "Stress Level Zero" after you're familiar with the terrain. Make use of chaff flares to distract hostiles (as described below) and just proceed slowly and carefully, quick-saving as you go.
OUTSIDE THE SUB: You begin the level in the water. Lara is wearing the Extreme Depth Suit (EDS). The controls for swimming in the EDS are similar to those for normal swimming; however Lara can't roll. The suit is pretty sturdy, but try to avoid ramming into anything. Also, the EDS is equipped with 10 chaff flares, which can be used as decoys to draw enemy torpedoes away. To drop a chaff flare, press the Sprint/Dash button. (I don't know why they didn't assign it to the regular Flare button, but here we are.)
The achievement/trophy "Peculiarities of the National Fishing" (named for the Russian comedic film) requires you to use all 10 chaff flares to divert torpedoes.
Start by swimming down out of the hatch and forward toward the gap in the rocks. Ahead is a rock outcropping that forces you to turn left or right. Go right. Swim between the rocks to an open area with a hostile submersible. The sub will start shooting torpedoes at Lara. If you don't care about achievements, you can just avoid them and immediately go for the secret (below). (screenshots)
Otherwise, move into the open, so the sub spots Lara, and drop a chaff flare. Then move away from it. The next few torpedoes should zero in on the flare instead of Lara. Spamming the flare button doesn't work because some of the flares will inevitably go out before they can attract a torpedo. So it helps to drop a flare, wait for it to go out, then drop another. If you're having a hard time seeing whether a dropped flare is spent, note that each flare lasts about 13 seconds. So if you drop a flare, swim out of the way, and count to 10-ish before dropping another flare, each flare should have time to attract a few torpedoes. Repeat until you've dropped all 10 chaff flares, and the achievement/trophy should unlock. Now, either reload if you want those flares back, or continue to the secret. (screenshots)
Try to avoid the submersible as you swim along the left side of the rusted U-boat hull. Locate the small opening in the rocks, below on the left. Inside is a golden rose (1) (118/239) (SECRET #1, 16/36), the only secret in this level. (screenshots)
When you have the rose, turn around and swim out of the cave. Head upward and to the right. Hurry past the mini-sub (drop a chaff flare if you still have any) and return around the rocks to the right, toward the big submarine where you began the level. If you pause near the waving clump of seaweed at the top of the slope, you may be able to lure the little sub into firing a torpedo toward the big sub. A direct hit on the big sub will unlock the "Silent Raider" achievement/trophy. (screenshots)
NOTE: If you don't get that achievement here, you can try again with the second small sub.
Beyond the waving clump of seaweed (and the big sub off to Lara's left) continue forward then to the right, along the other path between the rocks. Just around the corner, a strong water current prevents you from following the path to the left. Instead, turn right into another open area with a second hostile mini-sub. (screenshots)
If you already have the "Silent Raider" achievement/trophy, skip this paragraph. Otherwise, swim toward the sub to get its attention. Then turn around and return to the gap in the rocks. If you lurk in the gap, where you can see the big sub just ahead, the small sub should begin firing torpedoes at Lara. If you swim back and forth in this opening, you may take a hit or two, but one of the torpedoes should eventually strike the big sub, unlocking the achievement. (screenshots)
When you're ready to move on, swim into the area the second sub is guarding. (If you still have chaff flares, drop one to distract the sub.) Head for the gap in the wall on the left. Swim through this narrow channel, forward then left, into an open area with another hostile sub guarding an entrance to the wreckage. Quickly swim down through the hole in the rusted hull. (screenshots)
U-BOAT WRECKAGE: Inside, swim down then forward through the passageway behind the skeleton. Swim on through four connecting chambers. (There are no side passageways, so you shouldn't get lost.) Entering what would be the fifth chamber triggers a cinematic. (screenshots)
Cutscene: Lara discovers a well-preserved wooden crate. She pries it open and lifts out the SPEAR OF DESTINY (2) (119/239). "Ah, who could believe it," she remarks. But her elation is short-lived. The ceiling begins to collapse, damaging her suit. "Puncture. Time to leave."
When the cutscene ends, Lara's aqualung no longer works. You'll need to return to the big sub in a hurry.
NOTE: If you haven't already unlocked the "Stress Level Zero" achievement/trophy, reload your level-start save and repeat the sequence—from the big sub, to the secret, to the spear—without taking damage or scraping the diving suit against the rocks. Quick-save if things are going well, but don't overwrite your original save. If you see the stress meter at the top left, you've failed and need to start again. (See notes above.)
AFTER RETRIEVING THE SPEAR: Lara is facing the exit after the cutscene, so quick-save and swim through. The next opening is up to the left. The one after that is on the opposite side of the chamber near the top; the last is near the bottom. Once inside the larger hollow in the wreckage, head straight up through the opening. (screenshots)
BACK TO THE BIG SUB: The submersible is waiting outside. As you exit the hole, if you haven't gotten turned around, the sub will be behind and to Lara's left. Swim toward it, dropping a chaff flare or two as you go. Behind the little sub is a break in the rocks that leads back toward the big submarine. Follow this path forward and around to the left, between the rocks. Here the current will carry Lara the way she needs to go. Swim with it. (This is the channel you couldn't enter earlier because of the current.) When you see a flat rock shelf ahead (and possibly the first mini-sub off in the distance), don't swim toward it. Instead, turn right between the rock outcroppings. The big sub is now directly ahead. Swim under it and up through the open hatch. (screenshots)
Cutscene: Lara re-enters the sub and takes off the diving suit. As she stops to examine the spearhead, she's interrupted by Mikhailov and his goons. She reluctantly gives up the artifact, but apparently it doesn't like the gangster very much. As the henchmen drag Lara away, the spear gives Mikhailov a nasty shock, which also damages the submarine. Alarms blare as the boat begins to sink.

*NOTES ON PICKUPS, SECRETS, AND KILLS: There are 239 pickups and approximately 62 kills in the entire game. The total number of pickups includes 36 golden rose secrets. All pickups are required for the "Hoarding Order" achievement/trophy. Finding all secrets unlocks an achievement/trophy at the end of each level set (Rome, Russia, etc.) See the footnote following the STREETS OF ROME walkthrough for details on how these statistics are tracked in-game and in this walkthrough.
