In the last section, we arrived on the CAVERN FLOOR and killed two enemies, one with a wrench, one with a flamethrower. Note the trapdoor at the right end of the ledge where the flamethrower dude was standing, but for now continue around the corner to the left, where you'll find some movable crates stacked against the hull.

Hop up onto the corner ledge near the leftmost crate. Push it against the others.

Climb on top of it and push the upper crate once, so it's sitting on top of the partially buried crate.

Pull the left crate back to its original position.

Then climb over it and push it once, onto the corner ledge.

Turn around and pull the other crate on the lower level away from the stacked crates...

...to reveal the STERN ENTRANCE. Take the flares (5) on the ground and use the STERN KEY to unlock the door.
NOTE: If you missed the key, you'll need to go back for it. Details are in a footnote following the main walkthrough.

When you first enter the STERN, it's partially flooded. Jump in the water...

...swim down and forward, then make a sharp U-turn to the right.

You'll see a lever on the wall. Pull it...

...to open a trapdoor elsewhere.

There's a movable crate in the next room, but since Lara can't pull/push blocks underwater, it will have to wait.

Swim back the way you came, exit the STERN, turn right...

...and head back to the rusty ledge with the trapdoor, where you killed the guy with the flamethrower earlier. A thug with a shotgun (7) meets you there.

Kill him and take his shotgun shells (6). Then drop through the trapdoor. (This is not the one you just opened with the lever; it opens automatically when Lara stands on it.)
NOTE: If you don't have the SHOTGUN already, you'll get it here instead of shells.
IMPORTANT: Sometimes TR2 enemies die in awkward positions, so the items they drop land in midair or on slopes, making it difficult to retrieve them. This can happen here. Here's one possible solution, but it doesn't always work. Try to save in a new slot a few times each level, just in case.

DARK MODE: I plan to add optional dark mode for these pages, but my current priority is updating the walkthroughs. Meanwhile, may I suggest a reputable dark mode browser extension, such as Dark Reader? (Download only from trusted sites, like darkreader.org or your browser's official add-on/extension site.)
