NOTE: Combat strategy is based on the Medium difficulty setting, so your experience may vary slightly. In addition to the walkthroughs for each level, there are separate pages for Controls & Gameplay Tips, Skill & Weapon Upgrades, and Collectible Items.
SAVING AND CHECKPOINTS: Like the last several games, TOMB RAIDER uses autosave checkpoints. Whenever you pass a checkpoint, the game is saved automatically. Then, if Lara dies or you quit the game and restart, the game reloads at the last checkpoint. If you only rely on one autosave, you may run into trouble if you get stuck in the game, encounter a bug, or if your autosave file becomes corrupted. To avoid problems, I highly recommend changing your save slot at least once each level. You may also want to periodically back up your autosaves on a memory card (consoles) or into a separate folder (PC). See the controls page for details.

As you emerge from the cave into daylight, Lara takes in her new surroundings. When you regain control, move forward along the path, keeping the ocean on your right for now. Lara spots a lifeboat down below and your goal is updated.
OBJECTIVE: Search for Traces of Other Survivors
If you check your map and/or use Survival Instinct now, you'll see the diamond-shaped objective icon and Objective Beacon ahead on the seaside path. (screenshots) Follow the path forward to a fallen tree spanning a chasm. (The tree glows if you use Survival Instinct.) This looks more dangerous than it actually is, since you can't fall off at this early stage of the game. Step out onto the trunk and make your way across.
Continue along the path. When you come to the gap with the white stone edges, jump across and Lara should grab the opposite edge automatically. (screenshot) Press Forward to pull up. If you miss, just climb out on the lower edge, turn around and try again.
CLIMBING THE CRASHED AIRPLANE: Follow the path to a clearing with a waterfall and a crashed plane. Move around to the left and then step out onto the detached wing that forms a ledge below the dangling wreckage. Jump up to grab one of the silver bars on the nose of the plane. Here an on-screen prompt tells you to press Interact (E/Square/X) to grab when Lara starts to lose her grip. Once Lara has grabbed on again, press Up to begin climbing the fuselage. Then press Jump and Up to leap up to a higher handhold. Although the plane creaks and shudders, there's no hurry at this point. Once you have a firm handhold, Lara is safe. (screenshots)
Keep climbing upward then around to the right and out onto the wing. Another on-screen prompt shows how to jump across wider gaps: Lean out to the right by holding the right direction key or pressing the left analog stick to the right. Then press Jump. When Lara grabs onto the next section of wing, you'll need to press Interact again to keep her from slipping. This time she will fall and die if you don't do it quickly enough. Continue climbing along the wing to the right until a cut scene kicks in. Lara scrambles to safety as the wing breaks off. (screenshots)
Continue along the narrow path above the ocean. When you come to the painted, wooden wall, follow the on-screen prompts to "Wall Scramble." Move close to the wall, press Forward, Jump, then quickly Jump again to climb up. (screenshot)
RUBBISH-STREWN CLEARING: Hop down into the clearing ahead for a cut scene in which Lara finds a few belongings left behind by her friend Sam, including a TWO-WAY RADIO. You're also given a new goal.
OBJECTIVE: Follow the Survivors' Trail
Head out the other side of the clearing. No matter how you attempt to jump and grab the ledge with the white stone edge, you can't hang on. Lara falls and slides down the muddy slope into the next area.
