Archaeological Dig - Into the Pit - "Croft of the Blue" Achievement/Trophy
After turning on the power and collecting the TWO ANCIENT SYMBOLS, as shown in the previous section, head back toward the level entrance. About halfway along the edge of the pit, there's a break in the fence with a short ladder below. Climb down onto the top level of scaffolding.
The "Croft of the Blue" achievement/trophy, "Stealthily defeat the guard at the bottom of the Archaeological Dig," happens here. It's extremely fussy, so save the game in a new slot before descending. Then quick-save periodically if things are going well. This is also a good time to get a nice cup of tea and a snack. You may be here for a while.
If you aren't interested the achievement, you can just climb down the scaffolding to the ground and shoot/tase the guard (5). Then continue with the next section. Or take a SHORTCUT, detailed on a separate page.
To get the achievement/trophy, after climbing down the first short ladder, turn to face out over the pit. Head to the left and climb down the next ladder (or just drop down near it). The guard (5) down below shouldn't notice Lara here on the upper levels.
Move around the corner toward the next ladder, but don't climb it.
Instead, turn around to face away from it.
You're headed for the base of the hydraulic lift on the opposite side of the pit. The corrugated metal wall there will hide Lara from the guard.
Use Look to watch the guard for a moment. Just before he turns away, quick-save.
Then take a running jump over the railing...
...to land on the base of the lift. (Lara will lose some health in the fall.)
Step down behind the metal wall, and if the guard hasn't spotted you, quick-save again. If he notices, reload and try again.
NOTE: Even with subtitles on, the guard's shouts are not indicated. So if you're counting on this accessibility feature, I'm afraid you're out of luck. You'll just have to wait a few moments to see if he stops pacing and moves toward you.
Position Lara facing the metal wall, angled so you can see the guard and so you won't hit anything when you make the next jump. Wait for the guard to turn away and immediately side flip to the right...
...to land on the grayish pile of dirt outside the enclosure. Run toward the guard, and when you reach the annoying pile of rocks on the ground near him, activate stealth. (Your goal is to get behind the guard, so depending on which way he's traveling, you may need to go around the left side of the rock pile or the right.)
If he still hasn't noticed you, sneak along behind him...
...until you see the hand icon. (If it's not appearing, make sure you have Action Indicators set to 'On' in the Options menu.)
Immediately press Action to knock him out and unlock the achievement/trophy. Now have another cookie. You deserve it!
