Stella's Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness Walkthrough

NOTES ON THE REMASTER: At this point I can't guarantee 100% accuracy for this guide. Updates are in progress but will take time. Levels that have been worked on will say "Remastered," rather than "Classic," in the title. In the meantime, I have attempted to provide a running count of all kills and pickups, including totals for health packs, chocolates, sellable items, and cash, as well as notebook entries, which are needed for some achievements/trophies. If I've missed any, I do apologize. Please let me know if you discover anything not mentioned here. Also, in case it's not obvious, these guides are based on classic tank controls.

Items: 11, including 3 health items, 1 chocolate, lift maintenance key, apartment key, and VECTOR-R35 SEMIAUTOMATIC
Kills: 1 (optional)
Upgrades: Upper Body

You begin on the ground floor of an abandoned four-story apartment building. If you like, you can pull the wardrobe in front of the door (by facing the short side, holding Action, then pressing Back/Down to pull). This will give you a little more time before 3 gendarmes break down the door. It also prevents the one policeman who actually enters the building from following Lara up the stairs. When the policemen enter, they throw tear gas, and the building gradually fills up with toxic vapor. At this point, you can either keep ascending or return downstairs and kill one of the policemen (1) using melee attacks. (Stand close to him and tap Action once to punch, twice for one-two punch, or press firmly to kick.) If possible, try to attack him from the left, in order to shove him into the wall, instead of pushing him toward the 2 policemen with riot shields. If Lara gets too close to them, she will surrender. Game over. (screenshots)

Now you need to make your way to the top of the building, picking up goodies as you go. As you enter each apartment or side corridor, you'll find pockets of fresh air, but soon these rooms also fill up with poison gas. So don't hesitate too long or Lara will run out of breathable air and die. Ignore the boarded-up doors; Lara can't get in. Jump across the hole in the stairs between the first and second stories (i.e., the second and third if you speak American, but here in France, we'll use the European conventions). As you reach the second floor, there's a brief cut scene in which a section of floor collapses. If you approach the apartment door near the hole, Lara says, "This door is locked. I'll need a key." For now, take a running jump across the large hole, grab the far edge, and pull up. (screenshots)

Pick up a pack of health pills (1) on the floor in the hallway opposite the elevator. Turn around, approach the movable wardrobe to the left of the elevator, and pull it out of the way so Lara can continue upstairs. There's a small medipack (2) (60% health) in the next side hallway. (screenshots)

After getting the health pack, barge through the nearby door to gain another upper-body strength upgrade. Enter the room and find V-Packer standard cartridges (3) and K2 Impactor batteries (4) in the cabinets. Keep going upstairs. Exit and go to the left. Pick up bandages (5) in the next alcove opposite the elevator. Then continue upstairs. (screenshots)

A pile of debris at the top of the stairs prevents you from going all the way up. So, on the next landing, pull the heavy box out of the corner. (If you get here before barging open the door below, Lara won't be strong enough to pull the box, and you'll need to go back downstairs for the upgrade.) Climb onto the box, turn around, walk to the edge, and jump to grab the railing ahead. Pull up. Go through the door on the right. (screenshots)

MAINTENANCE ROOM: Pick up the LIFT MAINTENANCE KEY (6) from the floor. If you don't care about getting all the pickups, you can FINISH THE LEVEL by exiting this room through the other door as soon as you get the key. (screenshots)

APARTMENT 21: To get everything, first take the APARTMENT 21 KEY (7) off the hook on the wall. Use the switch to the right to bring the lift up to the top floor. Exit this room and step into the elevator. If you killed the gendarme (1) down below (or let him live but moved the wardrobe across the entrance), you should now have a clear path to Apartment 21. Use the elevator to ride down to the 2nd floor. (To operate the elevator, step inside, then use direction buttons/left stick to select the 2 button, then Action to press the button.) Step out of the elevator on 2. Take a running jump back across the big hole and grab the other side. Pull up and run forward into the alcove. (screenshots)

If you didn't kill the gendarme (1) earlier, and didn't move the wardrobe, the policeman will be waiting outside Apartment 21. If you try to jump across the big hole, he'll draw his gun, and Lara will surrender. So instead, either drop down on this side of the big hole or ride the elevator down to the 1st floor. Then climb the stairs, jumping over the small hole as you go. Quickly approach the policeman (1) and beat the crap out of him before he can draw his gun. (Again, to use melee attacks, move in close and tap Action once to punch, twice for a one-two punch, or do one long press to kick.) (screenshots)

Use the key to unlock Apartment 21. Go in and get the VECTOR-R35 SEMIAUTOMATIC (8) in the tall cabinet, plus a chocolate bar (9) and V-Packer standard cartridges x2 (10-11) in the left and right desk drawers, respectively. Return to the hallway, jump back across the big hole, and ride the lift back up to the 4th floor. Exit the elevator, turn right, and re-enter the MAINTENANCE ROOM. If you want to make sure you have everything before leaving, open your Inventory and scroll down to Statistics. When you're ready to move on, unlock the blue door marked "Sortie" and go through. 2/20/25 - Added VGCartography's level maps, with permission. Visit VGCartography on DeviantArt and follow on Twitter/X and YouTube for more fantastic game maps.
2/22/25 - Amended the strategy for dealing with the policeman slightly, thanks to feedback from Neiyra.

*NOTE ON LEVEL MAPS: VGCartography's Angel of Darkness maps follow a slightly different level-naming convention than I do. You'll notice most of the Parisian Ghetto-adjacent areas on the same large map. Later, the elemental levels off the Hall of Seasons are included on the same map as the hub level.
