Mission of San Juan – Revisiting the Tree of Life Challenge Tomb (part 1)

This guide assumes you've already completed this tomb and are coming back to retrieve items you missed the first time. If this is your first visit to the tomb, there will be puzzles to solve and more enemies to fight. Follow the main walkthrough instead.

Fast travel to the Mountain Catacombs Base Camp. There's a document (14/27), Chechen and Chaka Trees (Mam/Legends of the Maya), lying on the ground near the campfire. If that's all you need, you can now fast travel away.

If you're missing other collectibles, you'll need to delve into the caverns. Jump over the hole in the floor and latch onto the climbable wall, as shown in the screenshot above.

Climb then rappel down as far as you can. Swing back and forth, jump to grab the edge of the opening, and pull up.

Follow the path down to the bottom and jump across the gap onto another climbable wall.

Climb down and around to the right.

Then rappel down to the floor once more.

Move down the slope and use a fire arrow to ignite the gas jet, just like you did the first time you passed through this area. Quickly scale the climbing wall ahead and climb onto the ledge before the gas begins pouring out of the vent again.

Follow the path around to the wooden ledge and jump across the gap to the rocky ledge below.

Follow the path around to the right, past the gas vent, to the end.

Use a rope arrow to run a line across the chasm and slide down to the opposite side. If you didn't get it earlier, there's a survival cache (3/8), off to the right.

Climb the stairs.

Sidestep out to the end of the narrow ledge. Then grapple-swing across the chasm to the next wide ledge.

If all you needed was the survival cache, you can make a U-turn to the left and head back to the exit. (For details, follow the tomb walkthrough from here.) If you're still missing the next document, mural, or relics, continue along the path toward the burning braziers.

Move to the edge, jump across the gap to the next climbable wall, and rappel down to the ledge below.

Continue southward along the ledge and through a low tunnel.
