Rise of the Tomb Raider - Lost City Challenges

Updated: 7/4/16()

There are 4 challenges in the Lost City. This guide, along with the annotated level maps linked below, should help you find any challenge items you missed. If you are playing this level for the first time, you may want to follow the main walkthrough instead.

To check your progress on any challenge, open the map screen in game. Then press Y on the controller or click the Missions/Challenges button at the bottom of the map screen. This sub-menu shows active and completed missions and challenges, and lets you toggle between them if you have more than one active at a time.

Banner Wars · For Whom the Bell Tolls · Vandal · Burn Baby Burn

There are 8 Deathless banners hanging in the first part of the city. Locate and destroy all of them with fire arrows or molotovs to complete this challenge. All of the banner locations are shown below and marked with red dots on the annotated level map.

BANNER 1

This banner is in the southwest corner of the city, in the area with the wooden decking above the pool of water, near the entrance to the Timekeeper's Crypt. The banner is hanging on a small building constructed against the western city wall. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BANNER 2

This banner is hanging on the south side of the building just north of the monolith. There's a coin cache buried nearby. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BANNER 3

Look for the next banner southwest of the monolith, near a tree stump with poison mushrooms growing inside. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BANNER 4

The next banner is hanging on the north side of the building with the Archivist Map. If you come up the hill from the challenge tomb entrance, as shown here, this is the first building on the far left. Another coin cache is buried nearby. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BANNER 5

If you stand on the roof of the building where you find relic #3 (labeled B on the map) you can see the next two banners. One is hanging on the next building to the east. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BANNER 6

After burning banner #5, above, turn around to spot the next banner hanging on the building to the west. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BANNER 7

There's another banner hanging on one of the buildings next to the western city wall. It is the same building where you find relic #7. If you're looking for it after finishing the level, start at the Citadel Plaza Base Camp and go through the south gate and across the rooftops. The banner is on the right, about halfway between the gate and the southern trebuchet. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BANNER 8

The last banner is hanging above the stairs leading to the first gate. (There's a document and two of the statues for the Vandal Challenge here as well.). If you missed it the first time, just fast travel back to the Citadel Plaza Base Camp and go through the south gate and down the stairs to find it. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

There are 5 bronze bells hanging in the first part of the city. Locate them all and cut them down with your combat knife to complete this challenge. All of the bell locations are shown below and marked with yellow dots on the annotated level map.

BELLS 1 & 2

The first 2 bells are just below the Threshold of Kitezh Base Camp. One is inside the building where you land when you ride the zip lines down from the camp. The other is in the next building to the northeast. Here Lara is standing on the railing with mural #2 behind her. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BELL 3

There's another bell at the top of the tall, gold-domed tower in the north central part of the city. The walkthrough includes two routes to the top. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BELL 4

This bell is on the roof of the building where you find document #7. (map)It's easy to spot from most of the rooftops. Here Lara is standing on top of the first building where you land after riding the zip lines down from the Threshold of Kitezh Base Camp, looking northwest toward the first gate and the bell. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

BELL 5

The last bell is only accessible after climbing to the southern trebuchet. See the main walkthrough for details on getting there. From the trebuchet platform, use a grenade arrow to destroy the metal impact barrier in the ice wall to the west. (screenshot) The bell is in the little room behind the barrier. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

VANDAL

There are 8 headless statues scattered throughout the city. Locate them all and destroy them using weapons or explosives to complete this challenge. All of the statue locations are shown below and marked with pink dots on the annotated level map.

STATUE 1

The first statue is sitting on the marble railing in front of the building with the mural in the southwest corner of the city. This is just east of the building where you first slide down the zip line from the Threshold of Kitezh Base Camp. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

STATUE 2

The next three statues are near the first gate, at the northwest corner of the city streets area. The first one is high above and a little to the left of the gate. It's easier to spot (and shoot) from the nearby rooftops. If you missed it, return to the Citadel Plaza Base Camp and go back through the gate into the southern part of the city. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

STATUES 3 & 4

These two statues are on the left and right sides of the staircase leading up to the first gate. Again, if you missed either while playing through the story, just fast travel to the Citadel Plaza Base Camp, go through the gate to the south, and down the stairs to find them. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

STATUE 5

The next three statues are in the courtyard north of the first gate, near the Citadel Plaza Base Camp. One is just to the left of the campfire. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

STATUE 6

There's another statue a few steps northeast of the Citadel Plaza Base Camp, in front of the large statue of a horse. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

STATUE 7

The next statue is high above the ruined gate on the west side of the plaza. If you stand facing the stairs flanked by two horse statues and look up, you'll spot the statue sitting on a railing high above. You can also target it on your way back from the third trebuchet. (screenshot) See the Part 2 walkthrough for details. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

STATUE 8

The last statue is on the roof above the plaza. To target it from below, stand near the zip line you used to reach the second trebuchet. If you pulled down the rope barrier earlier, you can take a shortcut from the Citadel Plaza Base Camp. (screenshot) Otherwise, follow the Part 2 walkthrough to get back to the zip line. Then face south, toward the camp, and look for the statue above on the left. You can also destroy it while crossing the roof on the way back from the third trebuchet. BURN BABY BURN

In order to beat this challenge, you must light 5 signal fires using fireballs from the trebuchets. The signals are marked on the annotated level map with aquamarine dots, and they are visible from the trebuchets.

All but the fifth signal can be lit from the first trebuchet at the south end of the city. To get back there after completing the story, fast travel to the Threshold of Kitezh Base Camp, slide down the zip lines, and make your way to the southwest. Then climb up to the trebuchet as shown here.

After playing through the story, the second trebuchet is no longer usable. If you need to reach the third trebuchet to light the last signal, return to the Citadel Plaza Base Camp and climb to the second trebuchet, then the third, as described in the walkthrough. Use the third trebuchet to light the last signal, and then return across the rooftops to the base camp.

SIGNAL FIRES 1-3

The first signal is on the glacier atop the western city wall. It's ahead and a little to the left if you're standing on the southern trebuchet facing the first gate. The second signal is a little to the right of the first, and the third is off to the north, between the gate and the tower with the gold dome. Check the main walkthrough for details. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

SIGNAL FIRE 4

This signal can only be lit from the southern trebuchet. When standing on the trebuchet platform, this signal is off to the far right (northeast), on top of the building with the second mural. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

SIGNAL FIRE 5

The last signal can be lit from the second trebuchet (shown here) or the third trebuchet. During the course of the story, the second trebuchet is taken out of commission by the Deathless Ones, so if you must return to light it later, you'll need to use the third, as described in the challenge intro, above. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)

Note that signals #2 and #3 (as well as #5) can also be lit using the third trebuchet. Signals #1 and #4, in the southern part of the city, can only be lit using the first trebuchet. (Click screenshot to enlarge.)
