LEVEL 2: PERU
STREETS OF PARAÍSO: Run along the street until you come to a small box blocking the way. Jump over it and climb the telephone pole ahead. Jump to the roof on the right. Cross the roof, jump to the next pole and slide down. Continue to the right to the gate and CHECKPOINT.
A brief cut scene shows Lara meeting her friend Anaya in the town square.
Go along to the right at street level. Shoot 3 mercenaries and pick up whatever items they drop (shotgun, grenade, SMG or health). Backtrack to the building with the balcony and climb up on the left side. Kill another mercenary there and pick up a health pack or shotgun and a bronze reward.
Climb the white boards on the face of the building. At the top, jump to the right to grab the ornate carved molding. Pull up onto the roof. Take a running jump off the right edge of the roof to grab the second white handhold on the front of the next building. (This jump is a little tricky.) Climb to the right and jump to grab the next roof. Pull up. Step to the right a bit and climb down the white boards on the front of this building. Climb onto the crates, jump straight up to grab the angled cable and slide down to the street.
Kill 3 more soldiers in this area, one to the left and a pair off to the right. They drop the usual kinds of items (shotgun, SMG, health and/or grenade). Just to the left of the building with the curved arches, climb the pole and jump to the balcony. Shoot another mercenary there and grab his shotgun. Take a running jump to the next roof. Kill a soldier with an SMG and go through the door to a CHECKPOINT.
Cross the roof, jump to grab the telephone pole, climb up and jump to the next roof. Kill the mercenary, who may drop a grenade, and get the silver reward. Jump back to the pole and slide down.
Continue to the right, where you'll encounter 3 more soldiers. They drop various goodies, and there's another silver reward in the little stable at the far right. You may be able to shoot a mercenary in the next area from here, but you can't climb over the crates.
Return to the right to the blue building with the ladder. Climb up and head to the right. Cross the tile roof, jump over to the pink building, and then jump to grab the pole and slide down. Shoot the soldier on the left if you didn't get him before. Continue to the right past the motorcycle to a gate and a CHECKPOINT.
MOTORCYCLE CHASE: The title is a bit misleading, since this isn't really a chase. Press R to accelerate, B to brake or reverse, A to shoot bike-riding enemies and use the control pad to steer. There are several health packs scattered throughout this area, mostly on the right side of the course. To use them, just drive over them.
For the first part of the course, just avoid obstacles as you move forward. Shoot enemies when they come into view and try and get the health packs. Don't be afraid to drive slowly. There doesn't seem to be any time limit, as there is in the "big" version of the game.
After the next CHECKPOINT, you will need to speed up a bit to get across the burning bridge ahead. For the first section, stay to the right to avoid the first two flaming holes. Then move to the left to avoid the rest. When you get back on the dirt road, stay to the right. You'll find 3 health packs along the next stretch. Watch out for more enemies on motorcycles. When you reach the straight-away with green plants on both sides, you're almost done. Continue forward.
A brief, unintelligible cut scene follows. In the original game, Lara makes a daring leap onto Anaya's Jeep and shoots the driver of the truck chasing them. Then the two arrive at the archaeological dig site where they'd worked years ago. That game included a lengthy flashback sequence, in which Lara's companions are attacked by a monster and one close friend, Amanda, is trapped in the ruins. You may want to read about this in the walkthrough for the original game.
DIG SITE TUNNELS: A CHECKPOINT registers at the start of this section. Roll through the opening (Down + B) and slide down the slope. When you reach the spike pit, jump to grab the wooden bar and traverse to the right to clear the pit.
Climb onto the ledge above and push the boulder to the right. It rolls onto a pressure pad, extending a spear above. Climb onto the boulder and jump straight up to grab the spear. Swing around and jump to grab the ledge to the right. Pull up and take a running jump to grab the white ledge. Climb to the right and jump to the top of the slope.
Continue to the right and push the boulder onto the pressure pad. This retracts the spears above. Jump onto the boulder. Then jump straight up to grab the dangling rope. Swing and jump to the ledge on the right. Drop down on the other side and continue to the next CHECKPOINT.
Go to the right. Climb onto the ledge supported by two gnarled brown columns. Use the handholds on the wall to jump up to a ledge with a bronze reward. Climb back down to the floor. (You can use the pole and rope to swing across, but this way is easier.) Go all the way to the right, climb into the raised alcove to get another bronze reward. Then walk to the opening of the alcove but don't drop down. Stand in the opening, turn to face right and jump straight up to grab a ledge above. Jump up again to reach the upper ledge.
Continue to the right. At the spike pit, jump to grab the wooden bar and traverse across. Jump off near another CHECKPOINT.
FLOODED TUNNELS: Jump into the water and swim straight down to find a gold reward. Swim a bit to the right and then up to the surface for air. Again swim down, to the right and upward to reach another air pocket. Do the same thing again to reach a larger flooded room with air at the top.
To get out of this room, you'll need to swim down to the 4 flashing lights and activate each in turn. First, position Lara above one of the lights. The leftmost or rightmost one is best, then you can swim straight across in front of each light. Make sure Lara's air meter is full and then swim down to the light. When she's directly in front of it press A to turn it off. It's a little difficult to tell if you've done it at first, but the light should stop flashing. Swim straight across to the next light and press A to turn it off. Repeat for the two remaining lights. When you've turned off all four, the water recedes and you can run to the exit on the right to another CHECKPOINT.
TUNNELS WITH STEEP SLOPES & LEDGES: Go to the right and climb the three ledges on the back wall. Take a running jump off the top ledge and grapple swing to the top of the slope to the right. Climb the next set of ledges on the back wall, but instead of going to the right, jump to the left to grab the brownish ledge. Pull up and jump to the small ledge above the metallic grapple point. Jump to the ladder on the left and climb to the top to get a bronze reward.
Climb down the way you came and jump back across the ledges to the carved rectangular ones. Traverse along the top ledge to the right. Jump straight up to grab a smaller carved ledge. Then jump to the thicker, brownish ledge on the right. From there, grapple swing to the top of the next slope, where there's another CHECKPOINT.
WOODEN BRIDGE: Run across the rickety wooden bridge before it collapses. Slide down the small slope and continue to the right. When you reach the gnarled brown column, climb the carved ledges and jump to the ledge on the right.
STATUES WITH BOULDERS & PRESSURE PADS: Push the boulder off the ledge. Climb down and push the boulder onto the pressure pad to the right. Continue to the right, climb the ladder and jump to grab the carved ledge on the right. Jump up twice then jump left to grab the higher ladder. Climb to the top and push a second boulder off the edge to the left. Climb back down the ladders. This time, when Lara reaches the gap between the two ladders, just hold Control Pad Down and she'll climb down past the gap. Push the second boulder onto the other pressure pad to open the exit. Go through.
A brief cut scene shows Lara discovering the queen's tomb, which contains another piece of the sword.
DEEP PIT WITH LEDGES AND ROPE: A CHECKPOINT follows the cut scene. The next area contains a deep pit. Don't let Lara fall in or she'll die. Climb the ledges on the back wall, up twice, then right, then right again to a ladder. Climb to the top of the ladder then take a running jump to the next ledge on the right. Now make your way across the various ledges to the right. Beyond the ledges is a dangling rope. Take a running jump to grab it. Swing and jump to the next ledge. Take a running jump to the next ledge and slide down the slope. Shoot the mercenary at the bottom. Grab the SMG he drops and step to the right to another CHECKPOINT.
STEEP SLOPES & MERCENARIES: Slide down two slopes and kill the 3 mercenaries at the bottom. They drop various goodies. Go almost all the way to the right wall and then jump straight up to grab the dangling rope. Climb nearly to the top of the rope and then swing and jump to grab the ledge on the right. Pull up and continue to the right. Climb the next ledge to a ladder. At the top of the ladder, continue climbing upward using the carved ledges as handholds. Jump to the ledge on the right and shoot 2 more mercenaries to finish the level.
