The Cold War - Snowmobile Area with Icy Windows - Frozen Pool and Shack

NOTE: This walkthrough avoids using snowmobiles in order to unlock the "Snow March" achievement/trophy. If you'd rather drive, follow the classic guide instead.

In the last section, you killed an enemy snowmobiler and made your way back to the top of the chasm with the two ramps. Move to the outer corner of the ledge and jump across the gap onto the slope below the 3 frosty windows. Take a standing jump up the slope.

Use pistols to shoot out one of the windows. Then switch back to the M16 or auto pistols.

Run across the open area and climb into the wide opening on the left.

Soon another armed snowmobiler (22) rides in from the far side of this area. You can shoot him from here without being run over. He can still fire back, though, so try to kill him quickly.

Turn around and enter the area beyond the wide opening. Here you'll see a FROZEN POOL AND CORRUGATED METAL SHACK.

Find the switch in the dark corner on the left.

Use the switch to cause an avalanche that breaks the ice on the surface of the pool and alerts a mercenary (23) inside the shack, who comes out to investigate.

Kill him and take his small medi pack and M16 clips (47-48). You can then investigate the SHACK, but this is not necessary.

NOTE: The switch inside the shack doesn't seem to do anything. You can use it if you like, but it isn't necessary to complete the level. The main walkthrough includes additional notes on both switches.

DARK MODE: I plan to add optional dark mode for these pages, but my current priority is updating the walkthroughs. Meanwhile, may I suggest a reputable dark mode browser extension, such as Dark Reader? (Download only from trusted sites, like darkreader.org or your browser's official add-on/extension site.)
