NOTE: Combat strategy is based on the Medium difficulty setting, so your experience may vary slightly. In addition to the walkthroughs for each level, there are separate pages for Controls & Gameplay Tips, Skill & Weapon Upgrades, and Collectible Items.
SAVING AND CHECKPOINTS: Like the last several games, TOMB RAIDER uses autosave checkpoints. Whenever you pass a checkpoint, the game is saved automatically. Then, if Lara dies or you quit the game and restart, the game reloads at the last checkpoint. If you only rely on one autosave, you may run into trouble if you get stuck in the game, encounter a bug, or if your autosave file becomes corrupted. To avoid problems, I highly recommend changing your save slot at least once each level. You may also want to periodically back up your autosaves on a memory card (consoles) or into a separate folder (PC). See the controls page for details.
AREA 26: MOUNTAIN PASS (second visit)
Note: This level has no camps or collectibles.*
*The Arid Canyon Day Camp on the south side of this area is not accessible at this time, since the tunnel leading toward the Mountain Village is blocked by a gate.
OBJECTIVE: Take the PT Boat up the River to the Monastery (continued)
This time you enter the Mountain Pass level via the river, rather than the Mountain Village, as you did before. As Lara, Reyes and Jonah motor upstream on the PT boat, Lara explains her theory that the Sun Queen's trapped spirit is causing the storms. They all agree it sounds crazy, but right now crazy appears to be all they've got. When they arrive at the monastery, Lara asks her friends to guard the main entrance while she sneaks in to look for Sam. Lara climbs the cliffs to a point overlooking the chasm, and you receive 100 XP and a new goal.
OBJECTIVE: Enter the Monastery
Stand near the anchor post and shoot a rope arrow into the climbing wall on the other side of the chasm. (screenshot) Climb across, latch onto the wall and climb to the ledge above. Follow the tunnel to trigger a cut scene.
Lara emerges on a ledge overlooking the path to the monastery. Below, Mathias is leading Sam toward the entrance, accompanied by Whitman. Mathias explains that the warriors guarding the bridge are the Stormguard, waiting to be introduced to their new queen by the one who brought her to them. Whitman takes the bait and steps out to meet them. Naturally the Oni are not pleased to see a stranger. While the guards are busy pummeling the doc, Mathias hustles Sam past them and across the bridge. As the Oni attempt to pursue, a gust of wind sweeps them off the bridge into the chasm. Lara and Sam call out to each other, but before Lara can follow, the ancient bridge is blown away.
You'll need to find another way in. The tunnel to the south leads back toward the Mountain Village, but it's blocked by a gate partway along. So you can't backtrack. There are a few rats here if you want to hunt them for quick XP.
When you're ready to move on, stand near the anchor post to the right of the broken bridge. Shoot a rope arrow into the climbing wall on on the far side of the canyon. Zip across and then use the climbing wall to reach the ledge above on the right. Scramble up the painted wall into the building. (screenshots)
