Diving Area - Square Hallway Beyond the Blue Lock - First "Fire Safety" Encounter
NOTE: The "Fire Safety" achievement/trophy is introduced in the main walkthrough. In this guide, we'll work on the achievement first. Then, if you like, you can reload and replay this section to conserve health and ammo. Or, if you don't care about achievements, skip directly to the no-flames approach.
Beyond the BLUE LOCK, detailed in the last section, is a large hallway forming a square around a central room. The inner door closes behind Lara, so you can't go back. Around the corner to the right are 2 Dobermans (7-8). Another pair of dogs (9-10) and a guy with a flamethrower (11) lurk around the corner to the left. (He is enemy 1/9 for the "Fire Safety" achievement/trophy.) Save the game, then head to the right.
Take running jumps along the wide hallway...
...and kill the first 2 dogs with the shotgun (or another powerful weapon).
Roll and run a few steps back the way you came.
Take out the next 2 dogs as they approach. The flamethrower will follow close behind them. Avoid him for now.
Roll and take running jumps counterclockwise along the square hallway to the side farthest from the entrance. (You'll pass a hatch with a wheel. Ignore it.)
When you reach the second hatch with a wheel...
...open it quickly before the flamethrower approaches. (He usually comes from the right, following in Lara's footsteps.)
Run through and down the stairs. A thug with a club (12) is waiting inside on the right. It's hard to fight in the cramped stairway, so run into the room.
...roll, and back away firing.
Then wait at the bottom of the stairs for the flamethrower to approach. Let him set Lara on fire. (You may have to move partway up the stairs for the flames to reach you.) Then quickly roll...
...run, and fall into the pool, using medipacks to survive. (If you're playing on PC, the keyboard hotkeys for small and large medipacks are 0 and 9, respectively.)
Climb out of the water and either finish off the flamethrower or reload your last save and replay this section without catching fire. (Follow this link for the no-flame guide.)
