Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light Controls | Updated: 1/9/14(†) |
This page covers controls for the Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games. In the PC game, the controls can be customized somewhat. From the main/pause menu, open Help & Options, then Controls, Configuration and finally Button Configuration. There you'll see a full list, which you can change if you like. As far as I know, the controls cannot be changed in the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 games.
If you're playing the PC version, I highly recommend using a gamepad-type controller instead of the more awkward keyboard and mouse setup. I use a regular, wired Xbox 360 controller (see here for details), but you can also use a PlayStation 3 controller (instructions here).
If you're using a different type of controller, you may need to reassign certain controls, particularly the gamepad axes. For example, a wired PlayStation 2 controller should work fine, but you will need to select Z Rotation/Z Axis in the control setup, otherwise the right control stick does not function correctly.

*When using an Xbox 360 controller for Windows in the PC game, the default controls for Totec's shield are reversed: RB uses the shield for protection; LB raises the shield overhead. **There is no separate Walk control in the Xbox and PS3 versions, but you can move slowly by tilting the left controls stick slightly rather than all the way. |
THE INVENTORY SCREEN – EQUIPPING ITEMS & WEAPONS: As the game progresses, you'll discover and earn artifacts, relics and weapons. In order to use them, press Delete/Select/Back (for PC/Xbox/PS3) and then select the Inventory screen. There you'll see slots for two artifacts, one relic and three weapons (four including the default spear).
To equip an artifact, highlight one of the two artifact slots and press Enter/A/X. This opens the artifact screen. Click the white arrows (PC) or press LB/RB or L1/R1 to turn 'pages'. Then click (PC) or use the left analog stick (Xbox/PS3) to select an artifact from the grid. Press Enter/A/X to confirm your choice and place the artifact in the slot. Repeat for the second artifact slot and the relic slot.
To equip weapons, use the mouse or left analog stick to highlight one of the three weapon slots. Press Enter/A/X to open the weapon screen. Turn pages by clicking the white arrows with the mouse or pressing LB/RB or L1/R1. Highlight the weapon you want and press Enter/A/X to place it in the selected slot. Repeat with the other two weapon slots. To switch weapons on the fly, see above.
TOTEC'S SPEAR: If you play as Totec in the co-op game or as Lara in the single-player game, you'll be able to use the spear. It has the same basic mechanics as the pistol. Aim with the right stick (or hold Tab and move the mouse to aim the targeting reticle on the PC). You'll see a yellow dot where the spear is aimed. Then press the Fire button to throw a spear. Like the ammo for Lara's magic pistols, the spears never run out.
