NOTES ON THE REMASTER: At this point I can't guarantee 100% accuracy for this guide. Updates are in progress but will take time. Levels that have been worked on will say "Remaster," rather than "Classic," in the title. In the meantime, I have attempted to provide a running count of all kills and pickups, including totals for health packs, chocolates, sellable items, and cash, as well as notebook entries, which are needed for some achievements/trophies. If I've missed any, I do apologize. Please let me know if you discover anything not mentioned here. Also, in case it's not obvious, these guides are based on classic tank controls, and I have not yet included strats for all achievements/trophies.
LEVEL 28: THE LOST DOMAIN (Remaster)
Updated: 7/30/25(†)
LEVEL MAP by VGCartography (used with permission)*
Angel of Darkness Remastered Video Walkthrough by Eldincy
Items: 1 health pack
Kills: none
Upgrades: Lower Body (sprinting jump ability)
Notebook Entries: 1
As Lara slides into the level, your notebook is updated (55/62): "Find Eckhardt's old lab. We need that third Periapt Shard." (Again, this page on Von Croy's Notebook lists all entries.) The "Took Care" achievement/trophy for beating Boaz also unlocks here. (screenshot)
CAVERN WITH LAVA PIT & WOODEN WALKWAY: Just ahead, the passage splits. Go to the right. Soon you'll come to a slope above a lava pool. You can't get the large health pack behind the bars yet. Slide down the slope and jump just before the end to land on the nearest stone pillar. (You can steer Lara in the air a little bit, but don't oversteer or she'll veer off into the pit.) Walk to the far edge of the last stone in this cluster. Then take a short hop (Walk + Jump) to the freestanding pillar ahead. Again, walk to the far edge, then take a regular standing jump to the ledge with the lever. As Tomb Raider Logic™ would have it, completing this sequence gives Lara a lower-body strength upgrade. She also gains the ability to do a special sprinting jump, which will be very useful shortly. (screenshots)
Pull the lever to raise the gate back at the cave entrance. Climb onto the wooden walkway and return along the edge of the pit to the tunnel. Pick up that large health pack (1), exit through the open gate, and go to the left to get back to the main tunnel. Turn right and continue to another cavern. (screenshots)
SECOND CAVERN WITH LAVA PIT - TIMED RUN: This second cavern also has tall stone pillars and lava below. There's a lever near the entrance that opens the iron gate on the far side. It stays open for less than 20 seconds, so you'll need to move quickly and use the ability you just unlocked. Quick-save. Then pull the lever. During the brief cutscene showing the gate opening, you can see Lara in the distance and move her a little before the camera shifts back to her point of view. I found it difficult to do anything more than pivot so she's facing in the right direction. (screenshots)
Immediately take a regular running jump onto the first set of pillars. Then use the new sprinting jump (hold Forward and Dash) to race along the pillars. Just before Lara reaches the far edge, press Jump to clear the gap and land on the next set of pillars. Continue sprinting forward, then jump to clear the next gap. When you use the sprinting jump, you'll see Lara pump her legs like a long jumper, as though she's running on air, and she'll clear each gap without having to grab on the other side. You should then have plenty of time to run through the gate before it closes. (screenshots)
NOTES: The default control for Dash/Sprint is forward slash (/) on keyboard, Right Trigger on most controllers. Check or reassign controls in the Options menu if necessary. You will also need to steer Lara slightly as you go. Again, take care not to oversteer or she'll run off the edge. If you're having trouble coordinating the sprinting jump on the uneven pillars, try taking a running jump from the ledge with the lever to the first set of pillars. Then do a regular running jump (without setup or hesitation) and grab the edge of the second set of pillars. Pull up and do a sprinting jump for the final wide gap. Or try it the other way round. As long as you use the sprinting jump for one of the two gaps, you can still make it through the gate.
If you don't make it in time, either reload your quick-save or make your way back to the entrance: Turn around to face away from the gate. Then either take a sprinting jump back across the gap, grab the edge of the nearest pillar, and pull up. Or, move to the left wall, jump up to grab the horizontal ledge, traverse to the right as far as Lara will go, then drop down. Jump over the smaller pillars into the tunnel on the right cavern wall. Follow this tunnel back toward the entrance. When you reach the tunnel opening, take a short hop (Walk + Jump) onto the nearby set of pillars (or a regular standing jump angled slightly to the right). Then either jump over to the pillars below the lever or grab the narrow ledge on the left wall, traverse to the right, drop down, and take a short hop over to the ledges below the lever. Climb back up and and try again. (screenshots)
THIRD CAVERN WITH STATUES & WOODEN WALKWAYS: Beyond the timed gate, follow the tunnel to another cave. Ignore the steps leading down toward the lava pools and the stairs leading up to the huge door on the far side of the cavern. If you try to climb those stairs before disabling the trap, Lara will be sliced to shreds. (screenshots)
SHORTCUT: If you enjoy a challenge, it is possible to skip the lever and bypass the blade trap with a little trial and error. Details and screenshots are on a separate page.
To follow the regular route, move to the left side of the ledge near the entrance. Jump down to the ledge with the wooden ladders. (You may even be able to take a running jump and grab the first ladder directly.) Climb the two ladders to reach the highest wooden platform on the left side of the cavern. Jump across the broken bridge to the other side. (screenshots)
The camera shifts to point at the wall, making this next part stupidly awkward. You're aiming for the wooden platform with the lever a bit farther along the wall. Quick-save. Then slide down the ramp. Just before Lara reaches the bottom, jump, steer to the right a bit in midair, and grab the edge of the platform. Pull up. (screenshots)
Alternatively, if you can't get the hang of the midair steering and/or the weird camera angle, try taking a running jump instead of sliding down the slope. Position Lara on the wooden walkway with the broken bridge to her left and the lever platform ahead. Back up to the railing. Then run along the walkway and jump before Lara hits the slope. Grab the edge of the platform and pull up. (screenshots)
NOTE: If Lara misses the grab and lands on the stone ledge below the lever, you have a few options: (1) Reload your last save. (2) Make your way back to the ladders and try again. Start by taking a short hop down to the nearest pillar in the lava pool. Turn left and jump across the pillars to the ledge with the ladders. Climb up and try again. (screenshots) Or, (3) try the shortcut to bypass the blade trap on the stairs. It's tricky but possible.
Pull the lever to extinguish the flames in the huge statues' hands and disarm the trap on the stairs. (screenshots)
Hang from the edge of the wooden ledge. Traverse right, toward the cave wall, then drop onto the stone ledge below. Walk to the edge overlooking the middle of the cave and take a short hop (Walk + Jump) to land on one of the stone pillars below. Turn right, jump to the stairs, then continue up to the exit. (screenshots)
Cutscene: When Lara reaches the carved door, lava (or is it magical energy?) flows into the etched patterns, and the door opens.
Proceed into Eckhardt's Lab.

*NOTE ON LEVEL MAPS: VGCartography's Angel of Darkness maps follow a slightly different level-numbering convention than I do. You'll notice most of the Parisian Ghetto-adjacent areas on the same large map. Later, the elemental levels off the Hall of Seasons are included on the same map as the hub level. Visit VGCartography on DeviantArt and follow on Twitter/X and YouTube for more fantastic game maps.
