NOTES ON THE REMASTER: At this point I can't guarantee 100% accuracy for this guide. Updates are in progress but will take time. Levels that have been worked on will say "Remastered," rather than "Classic," in the title. In the meantime, I have attempted to provide a running count of all kills and pickups, including totals for health packs, chocolates, sellable items, and cash, as well as notebook entries, which are needed for some achievements/trophies. If I've missed any, I do apologize. Please let me know if you discover anything not mentioned here. Also, in case it's not obvious, these guides are based on classic tank controls, and I have not yet included strats for all achievements/trophies.
LEVEL 17: WRATH OF THE BEAST (Remaster)
Updated: 4/13/25(†)
NOTE: This is one of four small side levels off the HALL OF SEASONS. I have arbitrarily numbered them 14-17 but you can explore them in any order. After each one, you'll return to the Hall of Seasons with one of the necessary element crystals.

Items: 4, including 1 health item and Earth Crystal
Kills: 3
Upgrades: none
Notebook Entries: none
Step on the button with the earth symbol in the MAIN ROOM of the HALL OF SEASONS to open the three Earth doors. Run to the middle door (i.e., the one with the earth symbol above lever, not the outer door). Pull the lever to open the portcullis and run through. As with the other element levels, you may want to save in a new slot before entering, since you can't leave until you've completed it. (screenshots)
NOTE: There's a Viper clip (counted in HALL OF SEASONS) lying on the floor in the connecting hallway between the right and middle doors. I would wait and pick it up on the return trip, since you'll probably have undead knights hot on your tail at this point.
The next door opens automatically, leading into the WRATH OF THE BEAST level. Step forward to trigger a cut scene, then quick-save afterwards if you like.
Cut scene: The rather impressive Nephilim statue on the far side of the cavernous room crumbles, destroying most of the floor.
As in the other element levels, your goal is the alcove opposite the entrance. If you're attempting the "Live Dangerously" achievement/trophy, you'll need to cross the pit along the left side. (If you don't care about this, I've included an ALTERNATE ROUTE, below, that's a little easier.)
CROSSING THE PIT ON THE LEFT SIDE: Walk forward but not too far. The floor ahead falls away, but the ledge near the entrance remains solid. Drop down onto the ledge below on the right to get some bandages (2). Climb back up to the doorway. Now drop down on the left side and continue forward to the corner. Turn so the long wall is on Lara's left and step down onto the next lower block. Now comes the exciting part. Most of the blocks in the following sequence collapse as Lara passes. So you'll need to move quickly and decisively. (screenshots)
Quick-save first if you like. Start with Lara's back to the slightly higher ledge you just came from. Run forward and jump a few steps before the edge, so Lara clears the gap, and lands on the rocky bridge connecting the two sides of the room. Without hesitating, take a running jump off the pointed, light-colored block directly ahead before it collapses. As soon as Lara lands on the next block (i.e., the one with the reddish-brown top), take a standing jump onto the bluish ledge ahead, as the reddish block falls away. Run and jump over the next gap to land on the far left corner ledge. Turn right, run up the collapsing steps, and jump at the top to land on the next block. Run forward, vault up onto the next block, then next (in the far right corner relative to the entrance). (screenshots)
The rest of this sequence is the same regardless of which path you take, so skip down to the "FINAL APPROACH," below.
CROSSING THE PIT (ALTERNATE ROUTE): If you're not interested in achievements/trophies, you can try this path instead. There are a few tricky jumps, but it's a bit easier. From the entrance, drop down onto the ledge below on the right to get the bandages (2). Pull up onto the dark corner ledge above (i.e., the near right corner relative to the entrance). Turn left and take a running jump down to the reddish-brown ledge about halfway along the right wall. (screenshots)
Step out onto the narrow ledge running along the wall. Sidestep all the way to the other side. Then move onto the slightly lower green block. When Lara reaches the far edge, the block starts to tilt forward. Ride it across the pit and jump onto the reddish block directly ahead. This block starts to collapse as well, so immediately turn right and take a standing jump to the next block, then a running jump to the next (in the far left corner of the room relative to the entrance). Turn right, run up the collapsing steps, and jump at the top to land on the next block. Run forward, vault up onto the next block, then next (in the far right corner relative to the entrance). (screenshots)
FINAL APPROACH: Once you reach the far right corner ledge, you can breathe and quick-save again if you like. Turn right and walk out to the pointed edge of the corner ledge. Take a standing jump to grab the next tall block. Pull up, run forward before the block collapses, and vault onto the next higher block. Without stepping forward, take a standing jump to grab the next ledge. Pull up and quick-save again. (If you're that kind of person. I certainly am.) Now there's just one crumbling walkway between you and the prize. Turn right, run forward along the right edge of the walkway (the left side is unstable), and jump into the alcove as the block connecting the walkway to the alcove drops away. (screenshots)
When you make it, the camera shifts to show most of the remaining ledges falling into the abyss. Enter the alcove and pick up 2 boxes of V-Packer shells (2-3) and the EARTH CRYSTAL (4). (screenshots)
Cut scene: Shards of rock swirl up from below, rebuilding the floor. If you crossed on the left side of the room, the "Live Dangerously" achievement/trophy unlocks here.
RETURNING TO THE ENTRANCE: The 2 levers on the side walls re-open the gate leading back to the HALL OF SEASONS. But, of course, it's not that easy. When you step out into the room, 3 fire knights (1-3) appear and begin hurling fireballs in Lara's direction. They are similar to the other undead knights you've encountered except for the fireballs and flaming swords. You can avoid them or knock them down with the shotgun. (Other weapons, except the taser, also work. Melee attacks are out, since Lara will catch fire if she touches the knights.) Knocking them down twice destroys them permanently. However, if you're after the achievement/trophy "This is Lara!" you'll need to knock all three into the hole in the floor.
I don't have a foolproof strategy for this, but I can offer some general tips and one possible approach. First, don't draw your shotgun until Lara has a skeleton between her and the pit. It's much harder to maneuver with a weapon. If she aims at the wrong knight, either put your gun away, then draw it again, or press Roll to change targets. If Lara does catch fire, you'll probably want to reload, but you can also run under one of the small waterfalls to extinguish the flames. Then heal.
I have detailed one possible strategy for "This is Lara!" on a separate page with screenshots.
NOTE: If you follow the same sequence of elemental levels that I have, these will be undead knights 3-5/17 in the running count toward the achievement/trophy.
When you're ready to move on, pull the 2 levers on the side walls to open the gate and return to the HALL OF SEASONS.
If you don't care about the achievement/trophy, and also want to conserve ammo, you can step forward to spawn the fire knights then stand under the rushing water just outside the alcove. This protects Lara somewhat as the knights approach. The goal here is to draw them away from the levers. (There's another cascade near the exit, which you can also use to extinguish Lara if a fireball hits her.) When the knights start launching fireballs, side flip out of the way, then back to the water. When the knights approach, run/jump past them to either lever. Pull it. Then run to either waterfall and heal if necessary. Then run to the second lever and pull it. That opens the exit. Run to the water near the exit (if necessary), then even if you have a little health left, just keep running through the gate. Lara's health will be restored when you re-enter the HALL OF SEASONS. (screenshots)
Pick up the viper ammo (counted in HALL OF SEASONS) in the connecting passageway on the left, assuming you didn't get it earlier. (screenshot)

*NOTE ON LEVEL MAPS: VGCartography's Angel of Darkness maps follow a slightly different level-naming convention than I do. For example, here, the elemental levels off the Hall of Seasons are included on the same large map as the hub level.
