NOTES ON THE REMASTER: At this point I can't guarantee 100% accuracy for this guide. Updates are in progress but will take time. Levels that have been worked on will say "Remastered," rather than "Classic," in the title. In the meantime, I have attempted to provide a running count of all kills and pickups, including totals for health packs, chocolates, sellable items, and cash, as well as notebook entries, which are needed for some achievements/trophies. If I've missed any, I do apologize. Please let me know if you discover anything not mentioned here. Also, in case it's not obvious, these guides are based on classic tank controls, and I have not yet included strats for all achievements/trophies.
LEVEL 16: THE SANCTUARY OF FLAME (Remaster)
Updated: 4/13/25(†)
NOTE: This is one of four small side levels off the HALL OF SEASONS. I have arbitrarily numbered them 14-17 but you can explore them in any order. After each one, you'll return to the Hall of Seasons with one of the necessary element crystals.

Items: 3, including 1 health item and Fire Crystal
Kills: none
Upgrades: none
Notebook Entries: none
Step on the button with the fire symbol in the MAIN ROOM of the HALL OF SEASONS to open the three nearby doors. Run through the door on the right (with the fire symbol on the sign above the lever, not the outer door) and pull the lever. The portcullises blocking the inner hallway rise. Run through before the undead knights can do too much damage. (screenshots)
IMPORTANT: If you're hunting achievements/trophies, save the game in a new slot before going through the inner door. Once you're inside the SANCTUARY OF FLAME, you can't leave until you've beaten it, and you'll need to restart the level at least once to unlock the next two achievements/trophies. If you don't care about achievements/trophies, just skip down to the section "CROSSING THE POOL OF FIRE (SLOWLY)," below.
Cut scene: When you enter the room beyond the gate, it closes behind Lara, and molten metal flows in, triggering a series of eruptions.
The "Rocket Woman" achievement/trophy requires you to "take off on five different blocks without taking damage." Stand near the entrance and wait for the molten metal to trickle down to the pool of oil, igniting a wall of flames that rolls across the pool. After this, there will still be random eruptions, but things will be a little calmer. Quick-save if you like. Then approach the first unstable block. It's the dark-colored one just beyond the entrance. Approach it from either side, step onto it, wait for it to shoot up into the air, then quickly step off the far edge (or backflip) before the block reaches its highest point. If it gets too high, Lara will take damage when she falls. If she is injured, either by falling or by random eruptions, reload and try again. (screenshots)
The second rocket block is just to the left of the first, when facing downhill. Its the one that's slightly lower than its neighbors. Again, step onto it, wait for it to rise, then quickly run off the far edge. The third block is partway down the slope just to the right of the farthest oil-filled hole. Step down onto it, then step off the far edge as it rises, to land on the other solid hex next to the hole. Turn left and step onto the next rising block, which is slightly lighter than its neighbors. Again, when it shoots up, quickly run off the edge. Then stop so Lara doesn't run on into the flaming pool. (If you're having difficulty with this, you can move onto the block from a different angle, so Lara has more room to maneuver when she lands, or just backflip off the block as it rises.) (screenshots)
The final rocket block is one of the cluster in the middle of the flaming pool. To reach it, run out to the end of the blocks in the middle of the pool. Several of them will sink into the pool behind you. Take a standing jump onto the nearest block in the next cluster. Then run forward and left, onto the rocket block, which is slightly lighter in color than the others. Once again, run off the edge as it rises. If Lara hasn't taken any damage by the time she lands here, the achievement/trophy should pop. Now you can continue to the far end of the room to collect the FIRE CRYSTAL or reload your save at the level entrance and attempt the next achievement/trophy. (screenshots)
NOTE: As far as I know, it's fine to quick-save between blast-offs if things are going well. Just be sure not to overwrite your initial save. However, this achievement may glitch even if you do everything right. I've done it multiple times, stepping on the blocks in different order, both saving and not saving as I go, making sure no damage was taken (i.e., unable to use a health pack afterwards), and the Steam achievement is stuck on 4/5 blocks. Hopefully a future patch will fix this.
For the "Play with Fire" achievement/trophy, you'll need to "cross the Sanctuary of Flame before it is completely engulfed in flame and stay alive." So, if you've just done "Rocket Woman" you'll have to reload your earlier save, re-enter the level and watch the cutscene, quick-save as soon as it finishes, then make a run for the other side without falling into the pool of oil or being engulfed in the rolling wall of flame that follows Lara and ignites the pool in its wake. (screenshots)
Here's one possible path: As soon as the cut scene finishes, take a running jump to clear the two concealed holes directly ahead among the stepped blocks. (Or, if Lara is consistently taking damage from billowing fire here, either wait a second before running, or instead run down the steps just to the right of center to avoid the holes.) At the bottom, run out to the end of the central cluster of hexagonal blocks. Without stopping, steer slightly left at the end and jump over to the left side of the next cluster of blocks. (screenshots)
Still without stopping, run along the two left blocks (don't worry about the flames) and jump to the next set of blocks. Then either keep running and jump onto the single block near the stairs, or pause here just briefly, then run onto the far right block in this cluster, turn sharply, and jump across the gap onto the block nearest the stairs. When Lara lands there, stop. Then take a standing jump across the final gap onto the stairs. As you approach the alcove with the FIRE CRYSTAL (1), the achievement/trophy should unlock. (screenshots)
Now, if you have the achievements/trophies you want, you can take the crystal, save again, and complete the level. Skip down to the section "ALCOVE WITH HEALTH ITEMS," below.
CROSSING THE POOL OF FIRE (SLOWLY): If you aren't interested in achievements/trophies, or already have them, you can instead wait near the entrance for the pyrotechnics to subside a bit, then take it slow. There are still some hazards but no need to rush. Quick-save if you like. Then move down the slope, avoiding the pits and rising blocks. One possible safe path is shown in these screenshots.
Walk out to the end of the central cluster of hexagonal blocks, some of which sink into the pool behind you. Take a standing jump to the next cluster of blocks. Be sure to land on one of the ones directly ahead since the middle-left block rockets upward when you get close. Walk forward and take another standing jump onto the left block in the group of two directly ahead (i.e., the one that's slightly lighter in color than the others). Turn slightly left and take another standing jump onto the farthest of the three blocks ahead. (The nearest one is another rocket block.) Then take another standing jump onto the nearest block in the cluster ahead on the right. From here, you can either take a curved running jump to land on the staircase, or walk forward onto the block nearest the stairs and take a standing jump from there. Climb the stairs and claim the FIRE CRYSTAL (1). (screenshots)
ALCOVE WITH HEALTH ITEMS: When you take the crystal, the gate at the entrance re-opens. As you approach the pool, several small, floating platforms rise out of it. Before making the return trip, pick up a few health items in the high alcove on the left. To get there, take a standing jump from the top of the stairs to the first floating platform. Jump straight up to grab the edge of the platform above and pull up. Walk to the far edge and take a standing jump to grab the edge of the alcove; pull up. Pick up bandages (2) and V-Packer shells (3). (screenshots)
While you're grabbing the goodies, another hexagonal platform rises up to meet the ledge. To get down, take a running jump from the alcove, using the new hex for takeoff. Sail over the other floating platforms and land at the top of the steps. Or, stand at the back edge of the floating platform just outside the alcove. Then take a short hop (Walk + Jump) down to the next platform, and jump from there to the stairs. (screenshots)
BACK TO THE ENTRANCE: Descend the stairs and walk out to the middle of the ledge above the flaming pool. Take a short hop onto the hexagonal block directly ahead (not the one on the left). Turn right and take a standing jump to the nearest floating platform. Grab the floating platform above, pull up, and turn left. Walk forward, then jump to the next set of floating platforms. Step onto the farther of these two, turn left again (toward the middle of the pool), and jump down to the next set of platforms (one floater joined to one that is anchored). (screenshots)
NOTE: If Lara takes a little damage from the fiery plumes, don't stress too much; her health will be restored when you change levels.
Stand on the solid block for a moment and new platforms will appear ahead. This is not a bridge. There's a gap between the last two blocks. So step out onto the first floating block and then jump to the solid one. More floating platforms appear to the left. Jump over to them. Another platform appears ahead. Walk to the end of the three joined floaters and jump over to the single one. From there, jump to the solid blocks near the exit. Now just avoid the rocket blocks as you make your way to the gate and return to the HALL OF SEASONS. (screenshots)

*NOTE ON LEVEL MAPS: VGCartography's Angel of Darkness maps follow a slightly different level-naming convention than I do. You'll notice most of the Parisian Ghetto-adjacent areas on the same large map. Later, the elemental levels off the Hall of Seasons are included on the same map as the hub level. Visit VGCartography on DeviantArt and follow on Twitter/X and YouTube for more fantastic game maps.
