KUWAQ YAKU – First Crypt (Wayta, the Tyrant)

Updated: 9/29/18()

CRYPT ENTRANCE: The entrance to the first crypt is located on the bank of the stream that runs along the west side of the village. If you pass near it or speak to the lady sitting near the wooden shack where you find document #4 (screenshot), the crypt entrance will be revealed on your map. To get there, follow the stream south from the small dock. (screenshot) You can also reach it by following the river that runs under the rusted footbridge near Abby's place. (screenshot) Look for several blue plastic barrels and you'll find the cave opening nearby. Before entering the crypt, dig up a survival cache (1/14) on the riverbank just south of the cave opening. (screenshot)

Crack open the nearby salvage crate, then enter the flooded cave and dive below the surface. Swim straight through the tunnel until you can surface for air. There are a few plants you can gather underwater and a vein of gold ore on the north wall of the pool. Climb out of the water on the left and follow the tunnel. (There's more gold ore on the ledge with the skeleton to the right. You can get it by following the tunnel around behind it, or wait and retrieve it on the way out.) (screenshots)

A little farther on, your progress is blocked by a flammable barrier. You can burn it away with a fire arrow, or use one of the glass bottles and cloth found here to craft a Molotov and throw it at the barrier. Enter the room beyond and look to the left to find an archivist map (2/3) sitting on a stack of plastic pipes. Examine it to reveal several documents and murals on your map. Continue through the next room to find a mural (2/10), Wayta, the Tyrant (Quechua/Resting Places). (screenshots)

TRAPPED PASSAGEWAY WITH DEEP PIT: Proceed to the southwest. When Lara steps out onto the rickety wooden ledge overlooking the slope and deep pit beyond, the ledge collapses and she starts to slide. Steer to the right, left, then right again to avoid being impaled on the spiked walls. Then just before you reach the edge of the large pit, press Jump then Interact to grapple-swing across the gap. (screenshots)

Continue forward, jumping across a smaller gap, to the room with the sarcophagus. Open it to obtain an outfit component, Vestige: Nine Strides' Boots, plus 750 gold pieces. Once you restore and equip the boots at a base camp, they'll allow you to harvest more man-made resources from each source. (screenshots)

RETURNING TO THE VILLAGE: To get back to the main area, start by jumping across the gap and returning to the edge of the large pit. Grapple-swing across to the left section of the climbable wall on the far side of the pit. If Lara slips, you'll be prompted to press Interact to hang on. Then climb down and to the right. Lean, then jump to the right to latch onto the next climbable area. Climb to the top. Then scramble up the stone wall to grab the narrow ledge above. Jump up and latch onto the craggy wall above. Then continue climbing upward and to the left. Climb up as far as you can. Then scramble up the stone wall, grab the ledge above, and pull up. (screenshots)

Scramble up onto the ledge ahead. (The slippery slope with the spiked walls is now below on your left.) Before continuing onward and upward, jump over to the top of the spiked wall on the left to get some gold ore. Then return to the previous ledge and continue forward (north). Step out onto the jutting edge, jump toward the carved stone wall ahead, and quickly scramble up onto the next ledge. Again, move out onto the stone that juts out over the slippery slope. Jump forward and grapple-swing across the gap into the passageway ahead. From there, continue through the rooms where you found the mural and archivist map to the exit. (screenshots)

When you come to the ledge where you drop down into the shallow pit, you can go either way. If you didn't get the gold ore here earlier, head to the left. You'll find a small pile on the ground near a skeleton. Now jump back into the pool and swim through the flooded tunnel to the northeast to get back to the village. (screenshots)
