TOMB RAIDER GBC: TREASURE CHAMBERS A

NOTE: Letter designations for switches (S#), doors (D#), save crystals (C#), etc., in the text refer to labels on the corresponding level maps. The switches are numbered to match their corresponding doors (e.g., switch 1 opens door 1, switch 3 extends ledge 3, etc.). All pick-ups are marked on the map (I hope). Enemies and hazards are noted in the walkthrough but not on the maps.


Treasure Chambers A - Map 1 (click for printable map/map key)

Go through the blue door (D1) to the save crystal (C1) and then continue to the right. Climb onto the ledge and shoot the ceiling switch (S2) to open the gold trapdoor (D2) below. Drop into the pit and run to either side get away from the 2 snakes. Shoot them, pick up the small medipak and use the red switch (S3) to open the blue door (D3) above. Climb out and continue to the right over another gold trapdoor (D7). Climb onto the next ledge and shoot the ceiling switch (S4) to extend a set of flat ledges (L4) above.

Take a standing jump onto the first ledge (above the white break-away tiles over the spike pit). Jump to the ledge on the left and then pull up onto the ledge above. (Watch out for the dart traps.) Jump straight up to grab the rungs on the ceiling and monkey swing over to the ledge on the right. Shoot a bat and a snake, pick up the small medipak and use the red switch (S5) to open the blue door (D5) on the opposite ledge. Monkey swing across, shoot the scorpion and continue to the left.

Climb the ladder, shoot a bat and continue to the top, where you'll find a save crystal (C2). Off to the right is a locked blue door (D10). You'll return here when you get the key.)

Slide down the ramp, shoot the snake and take a running jump to grab the rungs on the ceiling to the left. Monkey swing across to the ladder and climb down to just above the retracting spikes. Backflip to the small ledge. Drop to the floor and kill 2 scorpions. Hop down to the level below. Kill the scorpion near the red switch (S6) and use it to open the blue door (D6) on the left. Use the second red switch (S7) to open a trapdoor (D7) down below.

Go through the green carved doorway to emerge from the other carved door just to the right. (Both doors are marked "A" on the map.) When the spikes below the doorway retract, drop down to land next to the trapdoor (D7) you just opened. Drop through the opening and duck and roll to the right, past the two gold carvings, to avoid the darts. Go through the green carved doorway (marked "B" on the map) to a new area.

Treasure Chambers A - Map 2 (click for printable map/map key)

You enter this area through the carved green doorway at the bottom right of the map (marked "B"). Climb onto the ledge to the left. There's dynamite here if you don't already have some. Climb the ladder, shoot the scorpion on the next ledge and jump over to it. Climb onto the ledge with the save crystal (C3).

Climb up to the next ledge on the left. Jump to the ledge on the right, get the heavy bullets and small medipak and jump back to the left. Cross this level, killing 2 snakes. The blue door (D9) doesn't open yet, so hop down below it, safety drop off the end of the ledge, slide down the ramp and approach the treasure hunter.

CUT SCENE: Lara interrupts a looter in the act. She asks him how to reach the lower levels of the temple. He tells of legends describing sun and moon amulets that must be inserted into certain statues to continue but warns Lara that this is very dangerous. She tells him to get out because the guardians have been awakened.

Climb the ladder on the left wall. Backflip to the ledge and pick up dynamite and a large medipak. Use the red switch to open the remaining blue doors (D8 and 9) in the area. Climb down and use dynamite to blow up the gray door to the right. Pick up the FIRST DOOR KEY (K) and continue to the right, through the blue door (D8), to the beginning of the area.

If you want to, you can climb back up to the blue door (D9) at the top left corner of the map to get heavy bullets and more dynamite. You can climb back down the same way you came to use the save crystal (C3) again on the way out. Exit through the carved green doorway where you came in (marked "B" on the map).

Treasure Chambers A - Map 1 (again)

You re-enter through door "B". Climb out of the room and go right. Climb the thin ledges (L4) to the top left side of the room. Continue left and climb the ladder to the locked blue door (D10).

Use the DOOR KEY and go through to an area with retracting spikes. Carefully pass the spikes and slide down the ramp on the other side. Lara will fall past another set of retracting spikes and land near a save crystal (C4) and a small medipak.

Slide down the slope to the left to land in a room with 2 snakes. Kill them and climb the ladder on the left wall. Shoot the ceiling switch (S11) to open the blue door (D11) down below. Climb down and go to the right. Shoot the scorpion and climb the ladder on the right wall. At the top, backflip and grab the ladder behind. Continue past some dart-shooting gargoyles to the top of the second ladder.

Go left, over a gold trapdoor (D12) and climb the ladder on the left. Jump to the ledge behind, shoot another scorpion on the next ledge and climb up. Shoot the ceiling switch (S12) to open the gold trapdoor (D12) below. Descend and climb down the ladder below the trapdoor. Watch out for the dart pipes. At the bottom pick up a SECOND DOOR KEY, dynamite, a large medipak and rapid bullets. Climb back up the two ladders to the ledge near the ceiling switch (S12).

Climb up to the left. Continue to the left, shooting a mercenary and a bat and picking up a small medipak as you go. Continue left, climb a ladder and shoot another bat. Climb the next ladder to a blue door (D26b), which doesn't open yet. Jump to the ledge on the right and continue to a locked blue door (D13). Use the SECOND DOOR KEY here.

Go through to find a save crystal (C5). Roll under the overhang and climb the short ladder to get a large medipak. Then continue right to two carved doorways with elaborate carvings of a sun and moon above them. Another save crystal (C6) sits between the doors. Off to the right are two stacked blue doors, (D25 and D26a) one with a lock and a switch (S26) behind it.

The sun and moon doors are marked "C" and "F" on the map. I explored the sun area first, but you can do them in either order.

Treasure Chambers A - Map 3 (click for printable map/map key)

The "sun" door leads to the middle right side of Map 3 (the connecting doors are marked "C" on both level maps). Go to the left past the white floor tiles to the save crystal (C7). Shoot the snake. Take a running jump to grab the ladder on the left and climb down. In the area below you'll find 2 more snakes, plus heavy bullets, dynamite (if you don't already have some) and a small medipak (hidden behind a pile of gold at the far left). Watch out for the darts. Get the goodies, climb out of this room and go back to the right, past the save crystal (C7) to the white floor tiles near door "C".

Use dynamite to blow up the tiles and climb down the ladder. Take a running jump to grab the ladder on the right wall. Climb up and backflip to the ledge with the heavy bullets. Jump back to the ladder and climb all the way down. Jump down off the ledge to land near a big gold wildcat statue. Roll through the hidden passage to the right to get 2 small medipaks. Roll back out and use the save crystal (C8).

To the left of the statue are two hallways, one on top of the other. Take the upper passage first. Carefully work your way past the series of slicing blades and retracting spikes. Pick up a large medipak on the other side. Climb up four ledges, avoiding the dart traps if possible and picking up a small medipak on the way. Climb the ladder and shoot the ceiling switch (S14) to open the gold trapdoor (D14) above. Climb through. Shoot the ceiling switch (S15) to the right, beyond the retracting spikes. This extends a set of ledges (L15) in a nearby room.

If you have dynamite, use it to blow up one of the 3 gray doors beyond the spikes to the right.

Then climb back down the ladder and ledges the way you came. Return to the right through the slicing blades and retracting spikes to the wildcat statue.

Now take the lower passage to the left. Duck and roll through the low tunnel lined with dart traps. Pick up a small medipak. Climb the ladder to the right and then hop over the opening to the right. Shoot the mercenary on the ledge above. Then climb the ladder and use the monkey bars to swing over to the carved green doorway. Go through to emerge at the bottom left corner of the same map. (Both doors are marked "D.")

Immediately draw guns to shoot a scorpion on the ground. Take care of the second scorpion on the low wall, climb up and kill a third scorpion before dropping down to get the rapid bullets and large medipak. Shoot the snake on the ledge before climbing up to get the dynamite. Exit through the carved green doorway to get back to the middle of the map (doors marked "D").

Monkey swing back to the ladder and climb down. Go to the left, jumping the gap above the ladder. Roll under the overhang with the dart traps, pass under a ladder and continue to the left edge of the map.

Climb the ladder and jump to the ledge with the red switch (S16). Use the switch to open a blue door (D16) nearby. Shoot a bat, climb back down and head to the right. Roll under the wall and climb the ladder above to find the blue door (D16) you just opened.

Go through, climb up on the right and shoot another bat. Climb the ladder to a room with retracting spikes, a save crystal (C9) and 2 thin ledges (L15) above the spikes. If you shot the ceiling switch (S15) in the room to the right (see above), these ledges will be extended and climbable. Climb up to the carved green doorway. Go through to emerge near the top left corner of the same map. (Both doorways are marked "E.")

Pick up the various items on the floor (small and large medipaks, rapid bullets) and shoot the ceiling switch (S17) to open the blue door (D17) back in the room with the spikes and thin ledges. Return through the doorway ("E") to that room. Hop down the ledges and exit to the right past the save crystal (C8) and through the blue door (D17) you just opened.

Jump the gap above the ladder. When the retracting spikes recede, run to the 3 gray doors (or 2 if you blasted one away earlier). Use dynamite to blow up one of the doors. Return through the door ("E") at the top of the room with spikes and ledges to get more dynamite as needed.

When you've blasted through all three gray doors, cross the room to the right. You'll pass over a gold trapdoor (D19). Shoot the snake under the ledge and pick up the large medipak. Climb onto the ledge with the save crystal (C10). Climb up one more level and use the red switch (S18) to open the blue door (D18) on the other side of the room. Cross the room and climb the short ladder. Shoot the snake, pick up the small medipak and use the red switch (S19) to open the gold trapdoor (D19) below. Return to the middle of the room and drop into the shallow pit. Duck to avoid the dart traps and pick up the SUN AMULET (SA).

Climb out of the pit and return to the start of the area—to the left, past the retracting spikes, down the ladder and four ledges, then to the left through the gauntlet of blades and spikes, past the wildcat statue, up one ledge, up the ladder on the right edge of the map, up the next ladder and right to doorway "C." Go through to return to the first area near the sun and moon doors.

Treasure Chambers A - Map 1 (again)

Use the save crystal (C6) again if you want. Now go through the moon door ("F") to another new area.

Treasure Chambers A - Map 4 (click for printable map/map key)

The "moon" door leads to the top left corner of Map 4 (marked "start"). Hop down one level to the save crystal (C11). Ahead are four high pedestals with retracting spikes on top. Down below is a huge spike pit, so be sure to save in case you fall. Jump to the first pedestal, wait for the spikes to retract and walk across, then jump to the second. The jump to the third pedestal is a standing jump-and-grab, but otherwise they're just straightforward standing jumps.

When you reach the fourth pedestal, you'll need to shoot a bat before jumping to the ledge with the gold statue, where you'll encounter 2 more bats.

Climb down the ladder on the right side of the fourth pedestal. Backflip over the spike pit to a ledge with retracting spikes above and below. When the spikes recede run to the right. Pick up the dynamite and use it to destroy the white floor tiles. Drop into the pit to get heavy bullets (2x) and a small medipak. Climb out of the pit. Climb the ladder to the right, kill the snake and get some rapid bullets. Go back through the retracting spikes, jump to the ladder, and climb back up to the ledge with the gold statue.

Climb the ladder on the right and make your way past the series of slicing blades. Slide down the ramps and fall onto a ledge with a save crystal (C12).

Take a running jump to grab the ladder on the right wall. Climb down to just above the dart-shooting gargoyles. Don't let go; there's a spike pit below. Shoot the ceiling switch (S20) under the ledge to open the blue door (D20) and then backflip to the ledge. Pick up the large medipak and go through.

The next room contains a series of ledges with horizontal retracting spikes. Stand at the edge of the blue door ledge. When the spikes retract, step off and then duck. Wait for the spikes to retract again and roll off the ledge onto the ledge below. Duck again and when the spikes retract once more, step forward to the edge of the ledge. Hop down and cross the area with the dart traps. Climb onto the first ledge, wait for the spikes to retract and jump forward onto the higher ledge. When the spikes retract again, run forward to the wall and duck. When they retract again, climb up to the ledge with the columns.

Hop down on the left side, grab the small medipak and shoot the snake. Continue left to the pit with two gold trapdoors (D21a and b), one above the other. Climb the ladder above the trapdoors and jump to the ledge. Use the red switch (S21a) to open the lower trapdoor. Pick up a small medipak and heavy bullets and climb back down the ladder. Climb the next ladder (to the left) and use the second red switch (S21b) to open the first trapdoor. Climb down and drop through the two trapdoors into a room with a save crystal (C13).

Pick up a large medipak and dynamite off to the right. Use the dynamite to blow up the gray door. Pick up the THIRD DOOR KEY (K) and go back to the right for more dynamite. Destroy the second gray door and shoot the scorpion on the other side. If you want to, you can go back for more dynamite in the same spot. Get the heavy bullets and rapid bullets under the ledge with the large medipak. To get the large medipak without injury, pull up onto the ledge, duck and when the spikes retract, roll to the center, which will cause Lara to pick up the pack. Wait for the spikes to retract again and roll to the other edge.

Climb the ladder on the right wall and shoot the ceiling switch (S22) to open the lower blue door (D22) to the left. Backflip to the ledge and use the switch inside (S23) to extend a set of thin ledges (L23) ton the left side of the room. Climb these ledges to the top, shoot the second ceiling switch S24) (to open the remaining blue doors (D24). Jump over to the ledge with the MOON AMULET (MA) and roll under the retracting spikes to get it. Roll out and climb back down to the floor.

Exit through the carved green doorway behind the wall to the left (marked "G" on the map) to return to the first area (between the sun and moon doors).

Treasure Chambers A - Map 1 (again)

After exploring Maps 3 and 4, you should have both the SUN and MOON AMULETS and a DOOR KEY. Use the key to unlock the blue door (D25) to the right of the sun and moon doors. Use the red switch inside (S26) to open the blue door (D26a) on the ledge above, as well as another blue door (D26b) near the top left of this map.

Before going through the doorway above, you can make a final pick-up in this area. Cross the map to the left, jumping the gap above the ladder. The blue door (D26a) on the far side will be open now. Hop down two levels and shoot the mercenary below before dropping down. Cross the room and climb the ladder on the left wall. Jump to the alcove with the large medipak and heavy bullets. Now return to the top right corner of the map, past the sun and moon doors and save crystal (C6). Climb to the carved green doorway in the top right corner (marked "H" on the map) and go through to a new area.

Treasure Chambers A - Map 5 (click for printable map/map key)

You enter this area at the top left corner (through the doorway marked "H" on the map). Climb down on the right to the save crystal (C14).

Roll under the wall to the right, but to avoid triggering the slicing blades, do not approach the platform with the medipaks underneath. Instead, climb the ladder on the left wall and use the monkey bars to swing to the right. Drop onto the left edge of the platform and shoot the 2 snakes. Cross to the right and hop down. Pick up the rapid bullets and the small and large medipaks. The blades remain inactive when you approach from this side.

Climb the ladder to the right and continue in that direction. Hop down onto the ledge below. Duck to avoid the dart trap and then hang off the end of the ledge. When the spikes below retract, let go and immediately step off the ledge to land below. Go to the left, shoot 2 scorpions and climb over the low wall to the next save crystal (C15).

Run or roll past the next set of slicing blades. Pick up the small medipak below the dart traps and continue left, over a gold trapdoor (D28) to a drop-off. Shoot the ceiling switch (S27) to extend a set of ledges (L27).

Climb down the ledges, watching out for the darts and taking care not to fall into the retracting spikes below. At the bottom left is a red switch (S28). Use it to open the gold trapdoor above. Wait for the spikes to recede and then climb onto the lowest ledge. Climb back up the ledges to the top and jump back to the right.

Climb down the ladder below the trapdoor you just opened (D28). Backflip over the retracting spikes to land near a small medipak. Climb the ladder on the right, shoot the mercenary at the top and climb down the other side. Place the SUN and MOON AMULETS in the big gold and blue statues to open the gold trapdoor (D29) between them. Fall through to finish the level.
