TOMB RAIDER GBC: CAVERNS B
NOTE: Letter designations for switches (S#), doors (D#), save crystals (C#), etc., in the text refer to labels on the corresponding level maps. The switches are numbered to match their corresponding doors (e.g., switch 1 opens door 1, switch 3 extends ledge 3, etc.). All pickups are marked on the map (I hope). Enemies and hazards are noted in the walkthrough but not on the maps.
You begin the level near the middle left of the map. The first save crystal (C1) is just ahead. Advance slowly to the right triggering the falling stalactites so they fall in front of Lara instead of on her. (These hazards are indicated in pink on the map.) Jump over the hole lined with spikes and climb the ledge and ladder ahead. The next save crystal (C2) is at the top of the ladder.
Take a running jump to the small platform on the left. Take another running jump to the next platform (above the spikes). From there, take a running jump to grab the ladder to the left and climb down. Roll through the concealed passage to the right. Shoot a bat and then run past the steam vents and pick up the small medipak. Climb the ladder and jump to grab the ledge with the rapid bullets, dynamite and switch. (NOTE: I'm not sure what this switch does. I have marked it "S?" on the map.)
Drop back down near the steam vents, roll out to the right and walk through the spikes. Step off the end of the spike ledge to fall through the hole lined with spikes into the pool below.
Swim down and to the left. Just beyond the jellyfish, pick up heavy bullets and a small medipak on the bottom. Then swim up and to the left through a concealed tunnel. Use the underwater switch (S1) in the next chamber to open the blue door (D1) back to the right. Swim through the concealed tunnel to the right and pick up rapid bullets and another small medipak below the dart traps. Follow the passage back around counterclockwise to return to the air pocket. Then swim down and right through the blue door (D1). Swim up past more fish-head dart traps to the surface. Climb out of the water and onto the ledge to the right to find a save crystal (C3).
If you stand near the crystal facing right, Lara can shoot the mercenary at the bottom of the ramp before sliding down. Climb the ladder. Then climb onto the ledge above (watch out for the dart traps) and up the next ladder. Shoot the mercenary on the ledge to the right before jumping over there.
Take a running jump to grab the bars on the ceiling. Monkey swing over the spike pit and drop onto the small ledge with the save crystal (C4). Save and step off the right edge to fall into the pool below. (Sliding down the slope causes health loss.) Climb out and get the small medipak.
Take a running jump over the water to the left. Climb down to the left and kill the mercenary waiting below. To conserve ammo, you can climb into the hidden passageway on the left (above the green stripe on the wall) and shoot the merc from there. In the secret room to the left are heavy bullets (2x) and a large medipak. Climb back out and continue to the right to the next area.
You enter this area at the bottom left corner. Climb over the wall with the save crystal (C5) and continue to the right past 3 steam vents. Climb the ladder. Turn around and take a running jump to grab the ladder on the left. Shoot the mercenary at the top and go to the left.
Climb up one level, shoot a snake, roll under the overhang and pick up some dynamite. Return to the right end of the ledge and take a running jump to grab the bars on the ceiling. Monkey swing to the left and drop onto the ledge with the gray door. Use dynamite to blow it up and get the 2 large medipaks inside. Monkey swing back to the other side. Climb back up to where you got the dynamite (and pick up more). Then climb the short ladder to the level above.
Go to the left and climb up to the rim of a spike pit. You'll encounter 3 bats as you go. Take a running jump across the spike pit to grab the opposite edge. Pull up and immediately shoot another bat. Just below and to the right is a save crystal (C6).
Hop down one level, run past 3 more steam vents and take a running jump to grab the edge of the small platform ahead. Pull up and get the large medipak concealed behind the rock pillar. Take a standing jump from the right edge of the platform down to the platform with the small medipak.
Safety drop off the right side of that platform to land on a slope. Slide and jump near the end to land on another small platform above a large spike pit. Jump to the left rim of the pit and safety drop into the safe spot with the small medipak. Climb back out and jump to grab the ladder to the left. Climb to the top, drop down on the other side and kill a scorpion. Drop down another level and kill another scorpion. Pick up dynamite here or on the level below if you don't already have some. There's also a snake on the level below. Use the switch (S2) to open the blue door (D2) back to the right.
Climb back out of this room and down the ladder on the other side of the wall. Go through the blue door (D2) and continue to the right, underneath the spike pit. Shoot 2 more snakes. Use dynamite to blow up the first gray door. Return over the wall to the left to get more dynamite and then come back to the second gray door (just above the first). Blow it up and pick up heavy bullets (hidden behind the short brown stalagmites), rapid bullets and a small medipak.
Now head to the right and climb a series of seven ledges. Some have steam vents, two have small medipaks. At the top is a long flat ledge with a save crystal (C7). Roll through the low passageway and shoot 2 scorpions. Use the switch (S3) to open the blue door (D3) above and to the right. Climb up and go through.
Go to the right past 2 steam vents and climb onto the ledge with the small medipak. Climb up two more levels to the top of a ramp where you'll find a large medipak. Slide down the ramp and jump near the end to land on the ledge above the blue door you just came through (D3). Continue to the left, past a couple of steam vents and over a low wall. Pick up the large medipak at the edge and then take a running jump across the gap to the left.
Shoot the mercenary on the other side and continue to the left. Climb over the wall and kill 2 scorpions below. Climb the ladder to the left. Look up to trigger 2 bats and shoot them before climbing the second ladder. Then climb all the way to the top and use the monkey bars to swing across to the right.
Go through the cave opening to emerge at the top right corner of the same map. (Both doorways are marked "A".)
Safety drop down on the left. Kill the snake guarding the large medipak. Hop down one more level, shoot another snake and climb the ladder above the blue door (D4). At the top you'll find a save crystal (C8).
Use the ceiling bars to monkey swing across to the left. Climb down the ladder and take a running jump across the spike pit to grab the opposite edge. Pull up, climb the ladder and use the switch (S4) to open the blue door (D4) you passed a ways back. Return across the spike pit, up the ladder and across the ceiling bars to the right. Continue to the right, climb down the ladder and go into the room behind the blue door (D4), where you'll find a large medipak and a DOOR KEY (K).
Climb back up the ladder and head left toward the ceiling bars. Instead of monkey swinging, slide down the ramp. Take a running jump across the gap to the left and climb down the ladder to the locked blue door (D5). Use the DOOR KEY here.
Enter the room with the purple BAT ALTAR. You're missing the items to activate it, so keep going to the left and down to the 2 cave openings. (These are marked "B" and "C" on the map. You can explore them in either order.)
If you go through the doorway on the right (marked "B" on Caverns B - Map 2), you enter this new area at the top left corner. Just to the right is a save crystal (C9).
Ready weapons, slide down the ramp and kill the mercenary at the bottom. Continue to the right, past a small medipak to a ledge with another mercenary and another small medipak. Keep going up and right. Take a running jump to grab the ladder and climb to the top.
Jump up to grab the bars on the ceiling and monkey swing to the left. Enter the concealed passageway, shoot a bat, take a running jump across the spike pit and shoot another bat. Pick up the goodiesheavy bullets, rapid bullets, dynamite and a large medipakand return the to the right across the spike pit and ceiling bars to the top of the wall with the ladders.
Climb down the ladder on the right side of the wall. Backflip over the spikes and use the switch (S5) to open a blue door (D5) elsewhere. Jump back to the ladder. Climb up and then down the other side. Go through the blue door (D5) you just opened. Slide down the slope and jump to grab the ceiling bars. Monkey swing to the left. Drop onto the ledge below but be careful not to land on the white break-away tiles above the spike pit. The next save crystal (C10) is just to the left, near a pool with a waterfall. There's a small medipak at the bottom of the pool but, unless you're desperate, you can get it later when you return this way.
Slide down the short slope to the right of the spike pit to land in the water. Swim down and to the right. Pick up a small medipak on the bottom and continue right and upward, past 3 jellyfish. Surface near a blue door (D6).
Climb out of the water on the left. Pick up the small medipak and continue to the left and down past 3 steam vents. Use dynamite to destroy the gray door. (A stick of dynamite will be sitting near the door if you need it.) Retrieve the rapid bullets (2x) on the bottom of the pool. Climb out of the water and back up the ledges with the steam vents.
Climb onto the ledge above the pool where you'll find a large medipak. Climb the ladder to the right, Get some heavy bullets in the pit beyond the ladder (mind the dart traps) and then use the ceiling bars to monkey swing to the ledge on the left. Climb the ladder on the left and shoot the mercenary on the next ledge before jumping over to it. Use the save crystal (C11) and the switch (S6), which opens the blue door (D6) down below. Climb back down to the pool, swim across and go through the door.
Jump into the pool to the right of the blue door and swim down and to the left. When the tunnel forks, continue down and left. [The right fork leads past some dart traps to another blue door (D7) that isn't open yet.] After a little ways, you'll come to a hidden tunnel of reddish rocks. Swim through and keep going to the left. Follow the ceiling upward and swim through another hidden tunnel. Surface for air and then pick up the large medipak and use the switch (S7) to open the blue door (D7) at the bottom right of the map.
Get air again if you need it and then make your way back to the right. Get air at the top right. Then swim straight down past the fish-head dart traps to the blue door (D7) you just opened. Swim inside, get the RED DIAMOND (RD) below some more dart traps and then swim back up to the surface.
Now head back to the left again: Swim down and left through the first hidden tunnel. From there, continue straight along the bottom to the left. When you reach the dart traps on the bottom, swim straight up to find a small air pocket. Take a breath and then continue on to the left and upward. Near the top of the underwater shaft on the left is a switch (S8). Use this to open the blue door (D8) just to the right. (Watch out for the dart traps.) Swim through the blue door, pick up the small medipak on the bottom of the pool if you didn't get it earlier, and surface near the save crystal (S10).
Climb out of the water, save if you want to, and then climb the ledges on the left. There's a large medipak behind some rocks on the first ledge and a small medipak near the ladder. Climb the ladder, shoot the mercenary if you feel like it, and continue to the top. Go through the cave opening (marked "D" on the map) to emerge back at the two doorways near the BAT ALTAR.
Caverns B - Map 2 (again)
Now you're back at the 2 cave openings (marked "B" and "C" on the map).
If you go through the doorway on the left (marked "C" on Caverns B Map 2), you enter this new area at the top right corner (through a doorway also marked "C"). Climb down on the left past the save crystal (C12). Go past the 3 steam vents, killing a couple of bats as you go.
When you come to the vertical shaft with the ladder below, take a running jump across the gap into a concealed passageway. Go through to the left and hop down. Pick up the rapid bullets, run past another steam vent, pick up heavy bullets and shoot another bat. Climb up on the left and pick up a small medipak. Shoot the mercenary above on the right before climbing up to get the DOOR KEY (K).
Hop down and continue to the left. Take a running jump across the ledge with the steam vent to grab the ladder on the left wall. Climb down and go right. Take a running jump across the spike pit to grab the other side. Pull up and continue to the right.
Use the DOOR KEY to unlock the blue door (D9) and then use the switch (S10) to open another blue door (D10) below. You can't get there directly, so make your way back to the concealed passageway: Return to the left across the spike pit, up the ladder and back to the right. When you reach the concealed passageway, take a running jump across the gap and climb down the ladder past the fish-head dart traps. There's a spike pit at the bottom, so backflip onto the ledge and then duck to avoid another dart trap to the left. Roll to the left and climb onto the ledge. Climb down the ladder on the other side.
The blue door you just opened (D10) is at the bottom. There's another blue door (D11), still closed, just above it. Go through the door and hop down to the next level to find a save crystal (C13).
Shoot a mercenary on the next level down before heading to the right. As you climb the next four ledges, you'll meet 2 more mercenaries. On the top ledge, turn around to find more ledges to climb above and to the left. Climb these ledges, then a ladder, and then backflip to land near a small medipak above a slope.
There's a big spike pit at the bottom of the slope, so use the rungs on the ceiling to monkey swing across to the right. Use the switch (S11) to open the blue door (D11) you saw a ways back. Monkey swing back to the left, take a running jump to grab the ladder and climb down. Climb down the ledges and return to the left to the save crystal (C13). Climb up out of this area to the blue door (D11) you just opened. (It's the upper one of the two stacked doors.)
Enter, shoot the 2 snakes and climb down the ladder to a pool with a waterfall and save crystal (C14). Swim down and to the left to find an air pocket. (There are piranhas and electric eels scattered throughout this area. Avoid them if possible.) Below the air pocket, on the bottom, are a small medipak and rapid bullets. Grab the goodies, get air again if you need it, and swim through the tunnel to the right along the bottom of the map.
After passing the 6 jellyfish, look for rapid bullets, a small medipak and heavy bullets and on the bottom. Keep following the tunnel to the right as is slopes up. Go through a hidden tunnel (reddish rocks) in the right wall and then swim up to another air pocket.
From the air pocket, swim straight down the shaft lined with spikes. At the bottom, swim to the left and use the switch (S12) to open a blue door (D12) elsewhere. Swim back up to the air pocket.
Swim down and to the left, back through the hidden tunnel and then up and to the left through the blue door (D12) you just opened. Beyond the blue door, follow the tunnel to the left. A little farther ahead there's another hidden tunnel in the ceiling, leading to a cave with 2 small medipaks, rapid and heavy bullets, plus another air pocket. After getting the goodies, swim back down and continue to the left, through another hidden tunnel and then upward. Climb out of the water near twin waterfalls and a save crystal (C15).
Climb the ledges to the right, shooting 2 snakes as you go. Hop down into a low area with a bunch of dart traps, plus a couple of steam vents. Climb the ladder on the right wall and backflip to the ledge with the BLUE DIAMOND (BD). Get it and return to the pool near the save crystal (C15).
Make your way through the underwater tunnels back to the pool with the save crystal (C14) on the left side of the map. (Refer to the level map if necessary.) Climb the ladder, go to the right through the blue door (D11) and then climb the next ladder. Continue to the right, take a running jump across the spike pit to grab the next ladder and climb up. At the top, continue to the right, past several steam vents to the cave opening where you came in (marked "C" on the map). Go through to the previous area.
Caverns B - Map 2 (again)
Now you're back at the 2 cave openings (marked "B" and "C" on the map). If you have both the BLUE and RED DIAMONDS, climb up to the BAT ALTAR on the right. Use one stone in each of the diamond-shaped receptacles to open up the altar. Go through to the next level.
