IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING ANY FILES: Tombraiders.net is not responsible for anything that happens to your computer as a result of downloading these files or following advice given here. All of my files are guaranteed to be safe and virus-free. Still, I recommend taking the same precautions you would with any file you download from the Internet, including scanning the file with an anti-virus/spyware program, backing up your existing files and, if you're unfamiliar with the process, following the installation instructions step by step.

HOW TO START A NEW GAME: If you've beaten the game and want to start a new game from the beginning, you must delete your autosave. For the PC version, locate the file 'autosave.lcgolsave' using the instructions below, but instead of replacing it with a new autosave file, simply move it into a new folder. The next time you start to play, the game will be unable to find the autosave and will start a new game and create a new autosave. On the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, back up your original Guardian of Light save data onto a memory card. Then delete it from the system's hard drive. Later, if you want to restore your old save, just move it back to its original location.

SOLUTION FOR CORRUPTED AUTOSAVE/SAVE LOSS AFTER UPDATING: If you are unable to load your game due to a corrupted autosave, or if Steam applies an automatic update and you no longer have access to your original save, there are two possible solutions below.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light PC Save Files

Each download includes one save file made after completing the level with all artifacts, relics, weapon pick-ups, powerups and upgrades—in other words, 100% completion up to that point. The last save, for Xolotl's Stronghold, has the game completed with all challenges done and all items and outfits unlocked.

How to Download and Install Guardian of Light Save Files:

1. Disable Steam Cloud synchronization:
   
   
   1. Open Steam.
   2. Go to your games Library.
   3. Right-click Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and choose Properties.
   4. Click the Updates tab.
   5. Un-check the option to 'Enable Steam Cloud synchronization.
   
   This prevents the game from restoring your last save from the Steam cloud server. You can enable it again later if you like, once you've played through to another checkpoint.
   
   
2. Use the links above to download the save file(s) you want.
   
   
3. Open the following folders on your PC (each folder is inside the previous one): Computer > Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > userdata > XXXXXXXX > 35130 > remote, where the X's are an 8-digit number representing your user profile. Inside the 'remote' folder, you should find your existing autosave file: autosave.lcgolsave.
   
   
4. VERY IMPORTANT: Copy your existing autosave.lcgolsave into a new folder. Then if something goes wrong and my save doesn't work for you, you can restore your original save and continue from where you left off.
   
   
5. Open the .zip file you just downloaded. Newer versions of Windows (i.e., the ones that can play Guardian of Light) should automatically open .zip files when you double-click. You can also use an archive utility like WinZip or WinRAR.
   
   
6. Select the file 'autosave.lcgolsave' and copy/paste or drag it into the 'remote' folder.
   
   
7. Close all open windows and start the game as usual.
   
   

These instructions apply to the Steam installation of the game under Windows 7. If you're using a different version of Windows, you can still use these saves, but I'm not sure exactly where the save files are located. Try searching for the 'Steam' folder and looking inside. Or search for the 'autosave.lcgolsave' file directly. If your autosave is in a different location, please let me know so I can update this page for others who may have the same setup. Thanks!

SOLUTION FOR CORRUPTED AUTOSAVE/SAVE LOSS AFTER UPDATING: If Steam applies an automatic update to your game and you suddenly no longer have access to your original save, try this:

1. Open the game directory. On Windows 7 systems this will be something like: Computer\Windows (C:)\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\XXXXXXXX\, where the X's are an 8-digit number representing your user profile. For other versions of Windows try C:\Program Files\Steam\userdata\ or search for 'Steam' or 'autosave.lcgolsave'.
   
   
2. Inside the game directory, there should be a sub-folder numbered '35130' for Guardian of Light. When Steam updates the game, it creates a new folder numbered '35150', but it does not move your original autosave into this new folder.
   
   
3. To fix this, open the '35130' folder, then the 'remote' folder inside it. Copy the autosave.lcgolsave file.
   
   
4. Then open the '35150' folder and the 'remote' folder inside it. Paste the original autosave.lcgolsave into that folder, replacing the new autosave.lcgolsave Steam has created.
   
   
5. Run the game as usual and your original autosave should now load.

If your autosave becomes corrupted for some other reason, then you'll probably need to download and install one of my save files, following the instructions above.
