LEVEL 6: ENGLAND

The level starts with a cut scene: Lara, Zip and Alister arrive at Professor Worth's King Arthur Museum, which is now abandoned and quite run down.

KING ARTHUR MUSEUM ENTRANCE: There are three windows near the start of this area. Stand beneath the middle one and jump up to grab the top of the window. Climb the handholds above, first upward, then to the left, then to the right and drop down onto a ledge with a bronze reward. Jump to grab the drainpipe to the right and slide down to the ground.

Continue to the right past the sword-shaped switch (it doesn't work yet) and into the building. Pull the crate to the left to position it under the doorway with the shiny metal grating above. Climb up and use the grapple to pull out the grating. Roll through the opening. Use the grapple to pull out the next grating and again roll through.

ALLEY WITH ELECTRICAL BOX: Run to the right to the third window—i.e., the one nearest the wrought iron fence blocking the way. Grab the window, jump up to grab the narrow ledge above and traverse to the right over the fence. Drop down on the other side. Press Up on the control pad to use the lever on the electric box. This turns on the power in the museum and also electrifies the puddle of water on the other side of the fence.

Go to the right, climb the drainpipe and jump to grab the narrow ledge to the left. Traverse to the left above the fence. Drop down to grab the top of the window but don't drop down again. Lara will be electrocuted if she lands in the puddle. Instead climb to the left and jump to grab the next window. Jump to the third window and from there, jump to the ground to the left of the puddle.

Run through the building to the sword-shaped switch. With the power on, it works. Use it to open the door on the back wall and press Up on the control pad to go through to the first CHECKPOINT.

MUSEUM EXHIBIT ROOM WITH HOLES IN FLOOR: Jump across the first five gaps in the floor. (At the fourth it's possible to drop down, but there's nothing to find, so just skip this.) At the sixth gap, step back from the edge a bit and then jump to grab the horizontal bar ahead. Swing and jump to grab the next bar and then swing over to the floor head. Shoot the suspended boat as the on-screen instructions say and hop across it to the other side of the hole.

Go past the door with the sword-shaped lever and continue right to a low grating. Use the grapple to pull it out. Roll through the opening and pick up a bronze reward in the next room. Return to the left. Climb down the handholds on the right wall of the hole. At the bottom there's another bronze reward. Climb back up, jump over the hole and continue left to the sword-shaped lever. Pull it and go through the door above to a CHECKPOINT.

STOREROOM WITH FORKLIFT: Stand beneath the shiny grating high on the right wall. Jump straight up to grab the ledge. Pull up, use the grapple to pull out the grating and then roll through. Get the bronze reward and roll back out.

Go left to the forklift. Stand in front of it and press A to get on. You don't really need to do anything except ride the forklift to the left. To go faster or to stop, press Left or Right on the control pad, respectively. The forklift automatically breaks through the walls and spear traps you encounter. At the end of the hall there's' another CHECKPOINT.

NOTE: I encountered a bug in which pausing and un-pausing the game by pressing Select while Lara is riding the forklift causes her to die for no apparent reason. I recommend not doing this.

TALL ROOM WITH BROKEN STAIRS: When the new area loads, press L as indicated on the screen to grab the ledge as the forklift falls. (You may need to tap L several times.) If you don't press it, the forklift plummets to the bottom of the shaft, killing Lara.

Once Lara is safe holding onto the small ledge, climb to the right and jump straight up to grab the doorsill. Pull up. Stand under the archway (not at the edge) facing left and jump to grab the horizontal bar. Swing and jump to the ledge ahead. Jump to the next ledge. Climb the handholds up, then to the right, and then drop onto the ledge above the doorway, where you'll find another bronze reward. Drop and hang from the edge and then let go to grab the small ledge below the doorway—the same one you initially grabbed when the forklift fell.

Drop onto the stairs below. Press Right on the control pad to move down the stairs and step off onto the stairs below. Go to the left end of these stairs. Grab the ledge above and climb to the left. Drop down three times to a small stone ledge where Lara can stand. Ignore the horizontal bar to the right. Instead take a running jump past it to the small ledge in the right corner. Drop onto the staircase below.

Press control pad Right to go down the stairs and step off the end. On the stairs below, take a running jump to the left to grab the dangling rope. Swing and jump past the horizontal bar to the ledge on the left. Drop to grab the handhold below and then drop down, grabbing onto each of the narrow ledges, three more times.

Climb to the right and jump to grab the next handhold at the same level. Climb to the right and drop onto the stairs. Drop off the right edge to grab the small handhold near the right wall. From the drop onto the small stone ledge in the corner. Hang and drop from the right side to the stairs below. Hang from the left side and drop to the floor.

Take a few steps to the left and climb the handholds upward and then to the left to a ledge with a bronze reward. Return to the floor the way you came and then go right to the next CHECKPOINT.

HALLWAY WITH FLAME TRAPS: Take a running jump across the lava pool and continue up the stairs. There's a doorway on the next landing that leads to a side room, but there's nothing inside. So pass it and continue up the stairs to a flame trap. Do not step on the burning sections.

Before attempting to get across, go for a reward: Pull the crate to the left as far as it will go. Climb on top of it and jump onto the small ledge to the left. Jump up to grab the handhold above. Climb/jump from handhold to handhold to the left. Get the bronze reward and then either climb back the way you came or drop down to the floor, jump across the lava pool and go back up the stairs.

Now push the same crate to the right onto the first section of the flame trap. Don't push it far enough for Lara to step on the flames. Once it's in position, climb on top of it. Step to the right and then grapple swing across the fire using the two shiny metal bars above.

GRAPPLE SWINGING TIPS: While standing on the crate, jump straight up and press L to grapple the metal bar above. If necessary extend the grapple cable a little by pressing Down on the control pad. Be sure not to extend it so far that Lara hits the crate while swinging. Then swing and jump to the right, and quickly press L again to hook the second metal bar. Extend the cable if necessary. Then swing and jump to the right to land safely beyond the flames.

Continue to the second flame trap. There's another crate already sitting among the flames. Stand near the fire but not too close and use the grapple to pull the crate onto the first (leftmost) section of flames. Climb onto the crate and grapple swing across the flames the way you did before.

Go through the door on the back wall to get a bronze reward. Then return to the main hall.

Climb the handholds to the left to get on top of the wide ledge above the next lava pool. Cross over that ledge and drop down on the other side. Ahead is another flame trap with movable crate. Cross it the same way you did the first two.

Climb the handholds just beyond the flame trap. Climb up and then to the right along the top of the room. From the last handhold, jump across to a wider ledge and walk along it to the right. Drop onto the ledge with the bronze reward and from there to the floor. Continue to the right to the next CHECKPOINT.

ROOM WITH GATE, PRESSURE PAD & POOL: Climb the handholds near the start of this area. At the top, jump to the right to the narrow ledge with the bronze reward. Be careful not to run off the other side. It's a long way down. Jump back to the handholds and climb back down.

Continue to the right to a pressure pad which opens the gate to the left. You'll have to find something to hold down the pad so Lara can get through the gate.

Climb the next set of handholds upward and to the left to a ledge with another bronze reward. Return to the floor the way you came. Swim across the pool to the right. Climb out on the ledge.

Enter through the next doorway (by pressing Up on the control pad). In the small room beyond, run to the left to get another bronze reward. Then return through the door to the main hallway.

Continue to the right down a small flight of steps. Use the small handhold to climb up to the wider ledge above. Use the grapple to snag the bronze reward in the niche to the right. Climb up two more handholds. Then jump up to grab the ledge above and to the left. Pull up, cross to the left and jump up to grab another handhold. Climb to the left and drop down to grab the handhold below. Climb to the left and jump to grab the next handhold at the same level. Now make your way to the left and downward to a wide, flat ledge where Lara can stand.

Use the grapple to pull the coffin off the shelf on the left so it drops into the pool below. Drop down on top of it. Or, if it floats off to the right before you can land on it, swim after it and climb up onto it. Once Lara is standing on it, use the grapple to hook the shiny rings on the wall and pull the coffin across the pool to the left—the way you did with the small raft in Ghana. When you get the coffin to the left edge of the pool, pull it as far as you can so its end comes up onto the step at the edge of the water. Then hop off and use the grapple again to pull the coffin up onto the pressure pad. This holds the gate open so Lara can go through. Beyond this gate is a CHECKPOINT.

SECOND POOL WITH GATES AT RIGHT END: Climb the handholds to the left to get a bronze reward. Return to the floor and go to the right. There are rings on the wall and another coffin on a shelf above but you won't need to use it. Just ignore the coffin and continue to the right.

Hop in the water and swim to the right. When you come to two doorways on the back wall, position Lara in front of either one and press Up to swim through.

In the room beyond, climb out of the water on the right. Climb the handholds upward and then to the left. Drop onto the ledge with the doorway, but don't go through yet. First, hang from the left edge of the ledge and jump over to the small ledge with the bronze reward. Then jump back to the ledge with the doorway. (If you miss, just swim to the right, climb out and then climb back up.)

Go through the doorway to emerge on a small ledge above the pool in the previous room. Jump to the right to get another bronze reward on a narrow ledge. (Try not to fall off, but if you do, just swim back through either of the doors on the rear wall, climb back up and go through the doorway again.) Climb the ledges to the right and drop down into the section of the pool beyond the metal gate.

Use the 2 switches (by pressing Up) to open the gates. Swim through the one on the back wall between the two switches. In the next room climb out on the ledge to the left.

Climb the handholds to the left then upward. Jump to the small ledge on the left then up to the ledge above it. Go through the doorway to another small room with gray ledges and a pool below. Take a running jump off the ledge near the doorway where you enter to grab the opening on the right wall. This jump is a little tricky because there's not much room to run, but it can be done. First move all the way to the left wall. Tap Right on the control pad to turn and then take the running jump. If Lara falls or grabs the edge instead of jumping, just climb up and try again. Once you manage to grab the edge of the opening in the wall, pull up to trigger the next CHECKPOINT.

BROKEN BRIDGE WITH BELLS & LEVERS: There's nothing to do here since the levers don't work yet. So run to the right, swim across the gap in the bridge, go up the steps and continue to the right to the next CHECKPOINT.

TOMB FACADE & ROOFTOP: Climb the light-colored handholds and jump to the stone ledge on the right. Jump to grab the horizontal bar. Swing and jump across two more horizontal bars to another small stone ledge on the right side of the building. Jump to grab the handhold to the right. Climb the series of handholds. At the top, climb all the way to the left and jump to grab the horizontal bar. Swing around and jump to over the first stage of the roof.

Ignore the small handhold above. (You can climb up that way but the alternate path described here is easier.) Instead, cross over the roof to the left. Hang from the left edge and jump to grab the horizontal bar. Swing around and jump to grab one of the handholds on the wall to the left. Climb to the highest handhold and then jump to the right to land on the rooftop.

Cross over the rooftop to the right. (You'll pass an opening but don't go in yet.) Pick up the bronze reward in plain sight on the roof and continue to the right. At the edge, jump to the ledge with the silver reward. (Be careful not to fall off the other side.) Then jump back to the roof. Head back to the left and go through the belfry opening in the middle of the roof. There's a CHECKPOINT here.

INSIDE ARTHUR'S TOMB: Go to the right. Climb onto the first wall and jump from there to grab the top of the higher wall. Pull up and drop down on the other side to get the silver reward. Climb back onto the high wall. Turn to face right and then jump on top of the dangling counterweight—the thing that looks like a striped gray cylinder hanging from a rope. Lara's weight pulls the counterweight down.

Climb back onto the high wall. Face left and use the grapple to pull the golden chandelier toward Lara, then release it. It swings back to the left and hits the bell, triggering a cut scene.

King Arthur's tomb is exposed. Lara asks the king's forgiveness for taking his sword.

THE SERPENT UNDER THE BRIDGE: Following the cut scene, Lara is back outside the tomb and a CHECKPOINT registers. Run to the left toward the broken bridge. Now there's a huge sea serpent (or maybe it's a subterranean lake serpent) lurking behind the bridge. It spits acid at Lara, so watch out. Fortunately, each splat of acid doesn't do too much damage, so as long as you keep moving, you shouldn't have any trouble.

The monster looks big and scary but it's really very easy to beat. Don't bother shooting at it or at the big, cylindrical bells (which is what you need to do in the PC/PS2/Xbox/PSP game). Just run to the first lever, wait for the serpent to surface and pull the lever. This will drop a metal cage on the serpent's head, taking away a quarter of its health. Run to the left, jump into the water and swim across the gap in the bridge. Climb out of the water.

Ignore the dangling chain near the broken edge of the bridge. If you try and climb up now, the serpent will knock Lara off, killing her. Instead run to the next lever. Wait for the serpent to surface and pull the lever. Again, bam! Another quarter of its health gone. Run to the left and repeat the process for the third and fourth levers, and the serpent is history.

Now return to the right to the dangling chain. Climb to the top of it to reach the next CHECKPOINT.

DEEP PITS & SECOND SERPENT ENCOUNTER: Jump to grab the horizontal bar. Swing and jump to the other side of the deep pit. (You can also run and jump right at the edge of the pit to clear it without grabbing the bar.) Grapple swing across the second pit. Then climb down into the pit you just swung across. Get the silver reward at the bottom and climb back up.

Take a running jump across the third pit. Slide down the slope ahead, jump to clear the gap in the slope. When Lara touches down on the other side of the slope, quickly jump again and press L to grapple the metal bar ahead. Grapple swing across the pit above the serpent's head.

Once you've cleared the serpent, continue to the right. Take a running jump across the next pit and then climb down into it. Go to the right to find a gold reward. Climb back up the way you came.

Continue to the right but don't go all the way up the stairs. Just before the top, there's a small light-colored handhold on the wall. Jump up to grab it and then climb the various handholds above upward and to the left. Drop down three handholds to a ledge with a bronze reward. Don't drop to the floor; it's too far to fall. Instead climb back upward and to the right the way you came. Drop onto the stairs and continue to the right to another CHECKPOINT.

RETURNING TO THE START: Go to the left then through the doorway on the back wall. (It's possible to climb over the ledge to the right but not necessary.) Beyond the doorway, head to the left and use the grapple to pull the crate onto the nearest section of the flame trap. Grapple swing across the flames the same way you did earlier. Repeat the process with the next crate and flame trap.

Continue to the left and down the steps. Pass the next doorway; there's nothing in the room beyond. Continue downstairs and take a running jump across the lava pool to the next CHECKPOINT.

TALL ROOM WITH BROKEN STAIRS (again): You're aiming for the doorway at the top right. To get there, first climb up two handholds and jump to the right to grab the chain, which wasn't there before. It doesn't swing. Climb up it until you see another fixed chain to the right of the first. Jump over to it. Then climb up until Lara is level with the doorway on the right. There's a horizontal bar between the chains and the doorway. Position Lara so her hands are level with the horizontal bar. Then jump to grab it. Swing and jump into the doorway. Step through to another CHECKPOINT.

HALL BACK TO STOREROOM: Follow the hallway to the right. This is where you drove the forklift before. A pair of mercenaries block the way. Kill them and take their guns. A third soldier waits on the stairs. Take him out and continue to the top. Run into the storeroom and get the bronze reward. Then press Up on the control pad to exit and end the level.

A cut scene shows Lara, Zip, Alister and Lara's friend and butler, Winston, back at Croft Manor. Together they examine the sword fragments Lara has collected. Lara says she's realized the Ghalali key can be used to reassemble the sword and it can be found in Nepal. She asks Winston to make travel arrangements.

NOTE: Again, the GBA cut scenes don't explain the plot very clearly. If you want the whole story, I recommend following the cinematics in the PC/console version.
