Tomb Raider for Nokia N-Gage

Tomb Raider for Nokia N-Gage Overview

I haven't played this game, but according to players who have, it's a smaller, pixelated yet portable version of the original Tomb Raider 1 for PC and PlayStation. It includes 15 extensive levels, in which Lara explores ancient ruins in South America, Greece, Egypt and ultimately the lost continent Atlantis. Rather than the full-motion video sequences between certain levels, the N-Gage version has scrolling text narration, and all audible dialogue is replaced with subtitles. There's also a downloadable assault course (more info below). You can find a complete walkthrough, plus additional information about plot, levels, secrets, and so on, on my main TR1 page.

CONTROLS: The controls are detailed in the game manual. If you don't have a copy, you can download a PDF manual here. (You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open it.) On the N-Gage Arena site, you'll find a message board where you can post questions and info about this game.

GAMEPLAY & STRATEGY: These are basically the same as for Tomb Raider 1. The walkthrough link above will take you to my TR1 walk. For gameplay tips and general strategy, see my TR1 Controls and Strategy pages.

DOWNLOADABLE LEVEL: The assault course is actually a regularly altered maze level which is automatically downloaded via the N-Gage's internet connection. It's used for "shadow racing," in which people all around the world compete to have the fastest time and highest score. (There's a league table which is shown each time you try to beat someone's result.) When racing to beat someone else's score, you see a second Lara, which is a recording of that person's performance. When you make it onto the league table your own recording is made available for others to beat.

SCREENSHOTS: If you've played the original Tomb Raider, you'll recognize these levels. The full-size screens aren't much bigger, but click any of the pix below to see them.
